The New York Times, who published the article opening the eyes of the American people to the governments illegal spying may face criminal charges. The government is hosting a large, widening investigation into the leak, mainly to scare future whistleblowers away from leaking to the press. What else does this administration have to hide?
Anytime anyone within the government engages in illegal activity, it is the responsibility of those who know about it to ensure it is brought to the publics attention. The leak and the NYT have done the people a great service by allowing us to have this debate.
I'm still dissappointed that the NYT didn't publish when the American people could have voted Bush out because of his illegal actions, but there is still no doubt in my mind that it's Better Late htan Never.
How can the same administration that leaked NIE numbers for propoganda, and that continues to block and obstruct the investigation into the leak of Valerie Plames identity, and into numerous other Congressional and Judicial investigations insist that THIS is the one that matters?
There is no explanation other than selfishness and a desire to cling to their remaining power. This is not justice, it is revenge.
We need to tell the Bush administration that if they want THIS leak investigation to resolve with charges against the official who spoke to the NYT, they better be prepared to see Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and many more endicted for Valerie Plame. They better be prepared to surrender ALL documents to Congress regarding prewar intelligence. We cannot allow them to selectively enforce those acts designed to protect our intelligence capabilities where it allows them to punish whistleblowers for bringing the truth to the American people.
Bush and Cheney have made it an artform on strong arming leaks. the constant intentional leaks out of the Republican party during the Clinton investigation and the leaks of Plame's name, as you said, show they do not care about what helps our country. They're in it for the power and the money.
They will further use their strong arming to try to keep republicans in line, but whistleblowers MUST stand up and keep us safe. (This goes for the whistle blowers in the election fraud too--PLEASE stand up with eveidence and speak out becuase right now our media has still ignored that story too. We need all the help we can get from you whistleblowers!)
NOTE whistleblowers are protected by law for that reason!
***Leaking is what Cheney and Rove and Libby did to Plame--and it's what they do when they go potty--and it's what their doing on our constitution and on YOU too!
Again, every time this aministration leaks, it is only to blow open a story that will improve their standing. this has to be stopped if we are to live in democracy.
