What do you suppose motivates people to participate in such hanius crimes?

I posted this article as sort of an introduction. I'm going to talk about the idea of committing such crimes. Even as a person with a bachelor's degree in social work, I'm not sure I understand what motivates people to commit such crimes?
Are they really that angry at the world? How could one human being possibly think that throwing their own child in a microwave could take away from all of their anger and cure all of their problems? As a good natured person, I try my hardest to understand people and their desired actions, but I can't seem to put my finger on it. Is it really insanity or is that just an excuse? When I was an undergraduate in college, we were taught to investigate the family structure before making a full and just opinion about them, or before even trying to empower them. So, it causes me to wonder what his family structure may have been like. Maybe this would give us an insight into the problems? There is mention that he did have a mental illness. Sure, that's a huge influence which may place a huge and not to mention annoying burden on one's life, BUT does that justify hurting another innocent human being? I'd like to think not, but in today's world, as we have seen, anything is possible. What do y'all think? I'm sure you're just as confused as I am. Although I'm beginning to think that he had anger management issues (obviously ) and had so much range inside of him from the arguments that decided to take it out on an innocent person? Still doesn't make sense in my mind. What do you guys think? I know I'm not expected to know everything, especially since I just graduated from college, but some insight would be greatly appreciated!! :) Thanks!
