If You Need Help with your Resume and Cover Letter, Don't Write a Post on Craigslist Asking For Help

Why I wrote this is because during the midday hours today, I decided to post an ad to Craigs' List Job Discussion board to see if anybody would help me with my resume and cover letter because I haven't found anybody to help me with them till this Afternoon. Therefore, I got a reply from a person who made a big deal about me asking for help and accused me of insulting him or her, even though I wasn't insulting anybody because I was just asking for help with my resume and cover letter. So, what's so wrong with asking for help with my resume and cover letter? Also, I received another reply from a person with a subject line that said, "Yaud!" What does "Yaud" mean? Because I've never heard of that word, or is that a foreign word?
So if you need help with your resume and/or cover letter, don't ask for help on Craigs' List because they might blame you for insulting them, even though you weren't.

A lot of people are going to try and charge you for this. Don't get suckered-in. Are you wanting a job out of college, highschool or while you're atttending. Your counseler in either will usually help you with that won't they? Ask them. You can also get generic ones through Microsoft Word that you would be able to play with to make your own.

I agree with Jewels07. Furthermore, never use a credit card on a website for a resume service, etc. Why? I don't trust using a credit card anymore on the internet and there are many free resources to creating/editing a resume or cover letter. I recently updated mine. Try your local library. They have all kinds of books with examples for resumes/cover letters. Also try google.com and totalresume.com it can help build a resume. Good luck!

When you post a resume or cover letter on Craig's List, they don't require you to use a credit card.

There are only a few posters in the jobs forum on craigslist that ever really have anything useful to say. The majority of posters there are disenchanted, negative trolls who really aren't very helpful.

As for the YAUD comment.. I'm guessing you're a graphic designer of some sort? The term stands for "Yet Another Unemployed Designer." Apparently there are a lot of graphic designers who post there asking for help. As a graphic designer myself, I learned VERY quickly that craigslist is NOT a supportive environment, especially to people in our field.

Anyway, I hope this helps. I still peruse the craigslist forums, because there are some gems for posts, and the rest can be kind of amusing at times. Just don't take any of that advice too seriously. I'd recommend picking up a resume guide at a bookstore or something.. you'll probably have better luck that way.
