Anorexia: Loss of appetite and inability to eat.

I happened to be watching Dr.Phil the other day, and the topic was anorexia. On the show, they viewed a 22 year old woman who had been anorexic for 4 1/2 years. That means she had to have started when she was 18/19 years old. Which is sad, it's sad to see people suffer because of there image. And of course society bases people off of there first impression, the way they look. And although some people say looks don't matter, which is a great way to see things. Some other people unfortuantely happen to view things much further than that. They see themselves as looking ugly and feeling ugly which causes them to hurt themselves. And eventually they become so addicted to there bad habits that they just cant stop.

In my own opinion you have to be really mentally hurt to want to do something like that to yourself. I mean, you can hate your image and you can think your ugly, but there are others ways to fix that. And if you really wanted it that bad you would persue those other things, such as exercising, finding your true inner self and the way you like things, or experimenting on new things. Theres many ways that you can make yourself feel beautiful other than starving yourself. Because once you start and are addicted, its so hard to go back. Your body cannot adjust so easily. And sure, some people think why dont they just eat something they can go right back to how they were before. Yet, its not that easy. Your stomach has become so immune to not eating very much for so long that even if you were to eat something from those small little cups that hot sauces come in, it would be extremely hard.

So stop before your ahead. Think twice about what your getting yourself into. Because as they say, " beauty is in the eye of the beholder". not the beholder himself, and anorexia is not the way to go.

I was thinking, maybe I should become anorexic for a while, just to lose weight. I think it would be an easier way out. Then I thought about more and well it wouldn't be the best, or healthiest way to go. Exercising is too much work though. I will lose weight though, and will do it right. On Xanga.com I saw one anorexics blog and she had pictures up of herself. I didn't understand how she maintained to have big breasts though since fat is stored there. She prided herself on eating only a mint one day. It was pretty disgusting, especially when people left her praising comments.

I've thought about it also. But the more thought you put into it, the more you realize how unhealthy it is. I do not think anorexics go into it with the plan of becoming anorexic. They just stop eating and it all goes downhill from there. We as outsiders cannot understand it because we see someone who is skin and bones literally, but they see someone who is fat and needs to lose more weight. We should not judge them because I can understand their frame of mind. I've struggled with my weight all my life and living in this society it is extremely hard. You are looked at as lower than all the skinny people, and sometimes you just want to be thin no matter what.

My family knows a girl who just graduated from high school last spring who has been to rehab twice for anorexia. It's absolutely horrible to see women and men alike suffer from this disease. It's the stupid media's fault for giving a wrong and completely distorted image of beauty to our youth. It's unhuman to look so perfect as all the celebrities do. They are touched up and airbrushed so much that they don't look anything like they originally did and they starve themselves to look that way. Truth is that the average woman is a size 12 not a size 0. Marilyn Monroe was a size 12 and she was the first sex symbol. It's a shame the way we see beauty. Being stick thin is not attractive. I'd much rather have a little meat on me than none at all.

The truth about anorexia is that it's a disease that can ruin or life and even kill you. It's extremely hard to overcome and can plague someone for the rest of their life. I hate anorexia but it's real and we need to do everything we can to prevent it.

I think that a lot of people would agree with me that the problem with anorexia wouldn't be as bad as it is now if it weren't for television, advertisements, media, etc... in general, people's ideal appearance is that of models, because that's what is "desirable" in our society today. But people are not taking the time to think about the consequences of these models looking like they do.
And what makes me so frustrated is that I don't understand why anyone could possibly want to weigh 50 pounds, not enjoy their food, and look like a skeleton.

I think that a lot of people have misconceptions about eating disorders. Most victims of anorexia don't just decide one day, "Hmm, I think I'll be anorexic." The disease often sprouts from a simple diet and turns into a deep spiral. The person will lose 5 pounds, then 10, and everyone tells her how great she looks. She keeps losing, thinking that if she could just be a little thinner, she would look greater. An anorexic's image of herself is skewed, so when she looks at herself, she sees the body of someone with a size 10 when she is a size 0. A close relative of mine has struggled with anorexia, and she didn't want to look like a skeleton; she wanted a thin body, but she kept losing because she didn't realize just how frail she had become.
