Your official transcript…

How extremely irritating. Let me tell you my tale. It started in fall of 1994 when I went to college right out of high school. I was in school, but it was not my priority thus resulting in a C’ average. In spring of 1996, I stopped going to school and by stopped I mean just that, no formal withdrawals, which resulted in 4 F’s. Fast forward to 2001, when I decide to go back to school, because of my psychotically low GPA I was denied student loans. I retook all of those F’ courses and received needed loans.

Now this is what really gets my goat, I have maintained a B’ average since I returned to school but I still have to explain to the higher ups my grades from 14 years ago. I was young and dumb! What is there to explain? It is hard to get a new start in school when that darn transcript follows you around. The original grades of the classes I retook are no longer configured into the GPA score, but still the grades are still there.

Youngsters beware – they are serious about that academic transcript.

Like my user name says, I am almost done with college!

You're right. In this world we must deny we have a soul. We must deny the fact that we are people under these numbers.

I am sorry to hear about your struggles, but I congratulate you on persisting and going back to school. Last semester I got diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and my school attempted to kick me out because I had to go on a couple leaves from school to see a specialist in another state. After fighting with my school to allow me to stay, my grades suffered greatly from my several periods away from classes. As a result my GPA sucks. I am doing so much better this semester, but I am devastated that so many opportunities have been closed off to me because of something I could not help last semester. I really wish that institutions, employers, and basically the world at large understood that college students are more than a number (their GPA) and that it in actuality tells little about the student associated with it.

Just tell them you didn't try and that you would rather make an F than cheat, unlike most students. That seems to get the nod of approval.
