It's Time To Meet Your Maker.

I don't know whether or not to be completely scared over death.
Is there a heaven? Or just a vast neverending abyss?
I believe in heaven, but sometimes people around me have a pretty steady case to try to convince me otherwise.
If there is a heaven, I want to be the best person I can be.
And I know that I shouldn't doubt, and deep down I don't doubt, it's just that so many people don't believe in heaven anymore, or even God for that matter, so then I start to consider seeing things from their perspective...
...And if there isn't really a heaven, I want to live my life like there's no tomorrow with no reservations, and no regrets. Yet it seems that to these people who advocate there isn't a God, by "living your life" you are committing sins. Sins, aren't good. You don't need a religion to let you know that stealing, cheating, and lying are wrong. It's a common fact.
So it's a fifty-fifty chance right? You can play it safe... and be rewarded later... or you can do what you want and be met with absolutely nothing later.
It could be a win-win or a lose-lose situation depending on how you look at it I suppose.

I just figured I would comment on this even though it is something I don't discuss. If I was asked now what is my biggest fear....my answer would be death. I always avoid the topic and allow any information on "Wills and Funerals" be discussed with my sister. Even though I hope with my family that is a long long long time away. I just wanted to say I give you credit for asking such a question, I never could! Good luck if you are going for the scholarship!

Have you ever heard of Pascal's Wager? "The Wager posits that it is a better "bet" to believe that God exists than not to believe, because the expected value of believing (which Pascal assessed as infinite) is always greater than the expected value of not believing"(from Wikipedia) I don't always like thinking in this mentality, sometimes it seems like a fall-back to me, but other times I can't help letting my mind slip into that state for a while.

Pacal's Wager is a load of crap and is a horrible backing for this type of discussion because it has no proof.

What makes you think that? Just curious...

It has absolutely no backing to support it. It also fails to take into account any God besides the Christian God, it is biased and unreliable. Percivale or DB can better explain why it is crap.
