YES.
In a short answer I think so. Are we living in a world where every little thing that is said has to be overly analyzed? Well at least for me when I first heard the comment I agreed with her. I am proud for the first time in a long time of my country.
I'm proud because for the first time in my adult life I'm seeing my friends that really had no intention of voting before getting excited about voting and encouraging others to vote. These were the same friends that when we were fresh out of high school and had our first chance to vote (during the election of Bill Clinton) could care less. No matter how I begged and screamed for them to vote. Trying to persuade them that it was our human right, and responsibility. Reminding them of how many people died for us to have this right. Still no luck, until now.
I find my little cousins that only concern is to have the newest Jordans and saving up for cars once they receive their driving license are now getting excited about the whole process and asking questions. They are even learning how the electoral college works.
I have even learned alot.
And this new awakening is not just limited to my family and friends. There are people going out to rallies in record numbers that have not participated in the past. And for the first time in my adult life I feel that our country has an overall feeling that they want the best person as the commander in chief that will lead us to a better tommorrow. No matter if it is a black man or white woman. We are heading in a good direction where some of the racism, sexism and other isms are beginning to fade.
I for the first time feel like we can actually move forward and unite and get us in a place where we need to be. I'm not thinking that either democratic canadiates will have a magic wand or pixie dust and change everything. I'm just suggesting that it is a good chapter in AMERICAN HISTORY.
And for that, just like Michelle Obama, I am proud.
