My religion is your religion

I'm protestant, sort of. I was baptized Methodist, but I usually go to a United Church of Christ church on Sundays, though when I'm at school I go to the general Protestant service, and sometimes I go to Catholic mass with my boyfriend. I also really like the teachings of Buddhism and have a few books about Buddhism by Buddhists, and I'm hoping to go to India next year, where I'll be able to learn more about Hinduism. I guess you could say I believe in animism because I talk to my cat, but that would probably be a far stretch. I'm working with a lot of Jewish people, and even though they have a bunch of strange words I've never heard of like va'ad, I don't see a whole lot of differences between Jews and Christians. Muslims do NOT scare me, in fact it makes me so mad when people shrink when they see a Muslim or pass one of their places of worship. Muslims are people just like you; their religion does not define who they are, and their religion, moreover, is not one of violence. This terrible misconception and ignorance on the part of the American people is a huge flaw. The thing is, all of our religions that cause such disputes between different people are really so similar. At the heart of almost all religions there is a desire for love and peace. So instead of using violence and trying to get your side to hate their side, stop and put yourself in their shoes and learn something about them. Before you say all Muslims are terrorists or all Christians are blind and ignorant, try on their circumstances and see if you still feel the same way.

We spend to much time hating one another because of our religions to face that fact that we are so alike. Muslims and Christians both came from Judaism. So why is it that these three sects never agree on anything? People are just blind to the views of others most of the time. I'm glad that at least your eyes are open to the flaws of our religous societies.

Religious hate is being sustained by the lies we get pushed in our faces (minds) daily.

Authority = media and in control of this weapon of hate, they will spew it on us whenever they feel the need to do so.

Not much of a choice remains when the herd is believing and eating this crap of lies.

What the eyes see the mind believes….

I think that the main reason people have these misconceptions is because of differing interpretations of each religion. Some Muslims interpret their religion as one teaching them to kill all non-Muslims, while the majority interpret it peacefully. Which interpretation is correct is an open question, with the Qu'ran and many mullahs coming down on both sides of the issue. Christians and Jews have similarly exclusivistic and accepting interpretations within the one religion. I believe that usually the more exclusivistic interpretation is the correct/original one, but the open and accepting interpretation is the predominant reality in our world, and we should remember that when speaking of religious groups, so I agree with you that we cannot say "all Muslims" or "all Christians" since they are such large and diverse groups.
