McDonald's Bigger Burger

McDonald's has begun testing out a new 1/3 pound burger in southern California. During the first 17 days, sales have been higher than expected and the burger may become available in all stores. But is it needed?

I think the idea of a burger that is 1/3 of a pound is rediculous. America is already fat. Not everyone is fat obviously, but our nation is severely obese when it's all averaged out. People do not need to be eating an extra big, greasy burger! Besides that, what is wrong with the current size?

The article (can be found at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17757931/) does state that other companies already have a burger that is 1/3 of a pound so I must ask, is it necessary for those companies either? I just don't see the problem with a quarter-pounder...

I was happy when McDonalds introduced their fruit and yogurt salad... it's somewhat healthy (it has candyed nuts in it) and they cleaned up their chicken mcnuggets so they are all white meat rather than mystery meat. McDonalds offers kids the choice of apple-dippers instead of fries. Intoducing a larger burger, however, doesn't follow the recent trend of fast food companies towards healthier eating and at least to me, it's disappointing.

Why make a bigger burger? The 1/4 pounder isn't broken and America is already fat! We don't need even bigger portions!

The sad thing is that people keep eating all this food. When you look at America's portions, not only at fast food places but also at restaurants, compared to the rest of the world's it's crazy. No other population eats meals as big as ours and then snacks throughout the day.

It is going to take a change in people's eating habits to change the industry's portions. Because for companies it's about profit not health.
