Semper Fidelis

As these Latin words state, Semper Fidelis (always faithful) does not have a lot to do with the statement itself as it does with the meaning of who you are. Regardless of being active duty, reservist, or veteran, this simple statement means much more than the ability of someone to act in a manner which precludes their ability to act with or without plans, as it stands for your ability to stay true to yourself, your country, your fellow Marines, and most importantly, to those you love.

Although the Marines have certainly capitalized on this particular saying (one of many), they cannot hold it as their own knowing that the ability of anyone to stay true to themselves and others is not the duty or calling of just one group, albeit a military organization, but must be made known, used and followed by each and every one of us. It may be easy to say, but it may not be as easy to follow. In that regards, I’ll give major kudos to the Marines in their ability to offer the necessary words of encouragement, validity to actions and to the ideals that with readiness comes the ability to act accordingly.

As a former U.S. Marine, I can truly say that once a Marine, always a Marine. Realizing that what was taught, learned and used during my time in service has not changed since I became a ‘civilian’. I may no longer carry a weapon, or wear the “uniform of the day”, I do instead understand, realize and proclaim my appreciation in knowing that there are many more individuals both in harms-way, and in other supporting roles who hold similar attitude and are ready to show their willingness to be faithful to their country, their own ideals, and also within their fellow human beings.

Hoo-Rah and Semper Fi Marine!
