I don't know if you have read 1984 by George Orwell but you should. The parallels between the Bush Administration and the creepy Utopian government in the book is really scary. For one the mantra endless war = endless fear = endless control seems to resemble the idea of the War on Terror. In the book they are always winning wars and starting new ones but it doesn't really effect the daily lives of the citizens. They live in fear and so they do not question the government for it is protecting them. Sometimes I forget that we are in fact at war and when the alert level changes I can't help but feel that we are being controled by our fear. Another mantra is tell a lie enough times and it becomes the truth. WMDs anyone? The book is an excellent read and I recomend it to anyone lving in America or being effected by the Bush Aministration (is there anyone who isn't?). I definatly made me realize ways that we are being manipulated by our government and our media (though I'm not too sure there is a differnece anymore).

i am certainly grateful for my rights as an americain citizen, but it seems to me that you are missing my point. first, i obviously understand that the book is not written about the bush administration considering it was written well before bush sr. was elected. but the principles used by the government in that book mirror many tactics being currently used. it is not fear of the government, no one in 1984 was afriad of the government except those who rebeled against it. it is fear that keeps people from rebelling.
I, too, have found paralells between Big Brother's tactics and those of the Bush Administration.
Guantanamo Bay seems awfully similar to the Ministry of Love. With the Bush Administration, once you're labeled a terrorist, they can do anything they want to you, and nobody can stop them. If that's not inidcative of Big Brother I don't know what is.
