Apparently .. Yesterday, February 21, 2008 an 8-year-old tiger named "Berani" escaped from its habitat at the Honolulu Zoo on Oahu, Hawaii. It approximately happened at 8:15 AM and lasted until right before the zoo opened at 9:30 AM.
A zoo worker was working in that area, cleaning the enclosures and accidently left the gates unlocked .. which allowed the tiger, Berani to nudge his way through and out of the enclosed area.
The tiger strolled from the new exhibit (which he was in) into the old exhibit which was now meant for the zoo staff that was just surrounded by a 4-foot high fence around it. He got in through an open area. They say the Berani could have easily jumped that fence into the public area.
Another zoo keeper coaxed the tiger from the feeding area with a meatball and got him into one of the bedrooms of the old exhibit. That zoo keeper was the one to sound the alarm (code red) meaning animal on the loose. All the workers responded and prepared themselves with tranquilizer guns. However, those guns were not needed because Berani was tame because he was hand-raised by humans. But, had the zoo been open at that time ... the workers would have preapared themselves for more drastic measures.
The tiger is now safely back in its habitat and the city of Honolulu is now investigating to see if anything in the enclosure was mishandled to cause the tiger to get out.

interesting story.
It seems like the worker that was cleaning the habitat made a silly mistake. This was most likely not intentional.

Yeah I know ... Tell me about it! What a mistake for that person to make ... It's a good thing the zoo wasn't actually open yet. Or else it could've been a lot worse.
