Why are there as many scholarships for “minority” students as there are? Really, when you think about it, who is the “minority” anymore when interracial couples and “un-American” residents complete the majority of the populace? Why are more and more corporations, organizations and institutions offering a growing number of scholarships for a “minority” student?
In today’s modern society, exactly who is the minority? Factors include dramatic increases in interracial couples and an unsettling rise in illegal and legal immigration. Caucasian people are no longer the majority of this country, but rather a smaller percentage in a whole.
Interracial couples become a factor when the couple produces a child with an extremely low percentage of “minority” and the child is forever a “minority” in the eyes of the public, organizations, and the country. Interracial couples keep the chances of a complete Aryan culture at bay, but those couples are also changing the face of the American "minority."
Immigration, whether it be legal or illegal, also becomes a factor when it tips one side of this country’s “minority” scale. The fact is that caucasian people are not immigrating to the United States, so the caucasian numbers aren’t getting replenished.
We are in a land where the “minority” is becoming the majority, and the majority is becoming the “minority.” Who, may I ask, are these “minority” scholarships for?

Which is the most recent data available, people who are white alone with no other race mixed in comprise 75% of the population. Perhaps you will be able to claim that whites are no longer a majority after the 2010 census.

I'm guessing you did no research for this post.

Why is it that legal immigration is as unsettleing as illegal? Do you feel threatened some how?
"the couple produces a child with an extremely low percentage of “minority”" What does extremely low % mean here???
While I do not agree with your reasons (as they are not based on logic or fact) I do agree that we should question minority scholarships based on race. It always feels weird when I see discrimination in a positive manner. I qualify as a minority and use it to my advantage but I am one of those people that believes as long as we have these labels and scholarships it gives the appearance of.... makes others have a percieved diffrence.
If your upset about your standing then maybe you should work to better yourself and earn your own scholarships. People of minority status have a little more to contend with and work against then the Aryan type.
Nice try...

Thanks for bringing up the obstacles minorities face in getting into college, t. I forgot to mention that in my comment.
If minorities have the same access to educational opportunities as whites, then the percentage of minorities who attend college relative to the overall minority population should match the percentage of whites who attend college relative to the overall white population. It is not even close to matching.

I completely agree. In some schools, minorities are treated with the attitude that they will never do anything in life past high school. I was never given help or guidance about college because it was assumed that I wouldn't go, even though I would have been valedictorian had I not moved my Sr. year.
Currently, about 7% of Native Americans go to college, compared to around 25% overall. This was from a report written for an engineering conference in 2005.

Also, aliens are not considered minorities because in order to be an American minority you must first be an American citizen. Anytime someone chooses to be nice enough to hand out free money, they get to pick who recieves it. I would not gripe at you and say that you are discriminating me for not being family when you don't buy me a birthday present. My tribe is my family, and if they choose to give me a present because of that fact then so be it.
Also, these guidelines save you time as well. Would you want to waste your time filling out a scholarship that didn't have these requirements if the committee prefers a certain heritage?
