Get Informed

For my first blog, I'd like to talk about the upcoming election and all the young, first time voters that will be participating. My state's primary occurred on Super Tuesday (Tennessee). The next day, there was plenty of talk around my school and everywhere I went about the candidates and the issues that are most important to the students. It's great that so many students were voting but one thing that really got to me was the talk of voting for candidates that their parents were voting for. This is something that really gets on my nerves. The issues that parents vote for and the issues that students vote for are two completely different things. All I urge students to do this 2008 Election is to get informed about the issues that matter the most to them. I cringe whenever I hear people my age say they voted for someone just because their parents voted for them. There are plenty of websites on the internet and plenty of programs on TV to watch to become more informed and to figure out how students want to vote for. If you're still not sure who you're voting for, look at the issues that mean the most to you. What candidate shares the same ideals with you about the importance and accessibility of education? Do you think America should have universal healthcare or should we work to make health insurance more affordable for all Americans? Whatever issues you care the most about, I strongly urge everyone to find what YOU think about it then vote for the candidate that reflects your viewpoint. Thanks for reading.
