Greenbelt, MD (BlackNews.com) - Nearly one-third of American women report being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some time in their lives, according to a recent National survey by the Commonwealth Fund.
Sisters4Sisters, Inc, a Maryland suburban based Community Service organization has launched "LOVE - Leave Out Violence Everyday" in an effort to prevent and educate the community on Domestic Violence and it's alarming impact on our society.
The Sisters4Sisters, Inc. 2006 Empowerment Prayer Breakfast, held on Saturday October 28, 2006 is designed to increase awareness of domestic violence throughout our community and the world, while encouraging others to get involved in order to make the Difference. The seven-year old, community-based women's organization, is reaching beyond their members to identify and address the needs of women throughout the D.C. Metropolitan region. With several local women being murdered and set afire in the past 12 months, Sisters4Sisters, Inc. believes it's time to educate and empower women in the region and around the world.
Many domestic victims are unaware of the various agencies and services positioned to empower and assist them, said Carolyn Washington, executive director of Sisters4Sisters, Inc. "We encourage women who need assistance to first make an honest decision to change, we then assist them with resources and information on steps toward that change."
"With LOVE partners offering an array of services including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Martial Arts, Self-Esteem Workshops and the likes, we believe collaboration of concerned professionals will definitely make a significant impact. Our ultimate goal is to have a transitional home for women entitled 'The House of LOVE'...designed to Restore, Rebuild and Renew the Hearts & Spirits of Women with Hope."
The Domestic Violence Empowerment Breakfast, will be held on Saturday October 28 from 8:00am-11:00am (Doors Open at 7:00 am) at Martins Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland.
