High school was the best time of my life. All my friends wonder why and say they have more freedom in college. I ask them, remember how we slacked off back in high school? The problem is that they still do. I moved 2 hrs away from where my friends lived. Had I stayed there, I wouldn’t have changed and my partying and going out would have been the same. In high school, I didn’t care about my future. I didn’t care about school or about grades or anything other than enjoying the present. Thankfully I have parents who run after me as if I am still a toddler. Encouraged and motivated by them, I have decided to pull it together and get a grip on life. I look around and I have been in houses where people’s furniture was broken and in neighborhoods where you would think it is unsafe to walk outside your door. On the other hand, I have been to houses where every person living there had a bathroom of their own, multiple kitchens, and two-story living rooms in neighborhoods where the cars were used as a means of comparison. How do I want to end up? Obviously wealthy. But wealthy in a way in which I earned my own status, and not as if I was born into a wealthy status or handed the lottery. But back to the point of shock- as soon as I started caring about my education, the more stress I had in my life. I have to sit and read all day. I hardly have time for leisure. And another thing is my studying methods. Had I cared back in high school I would have had some skills now. I don’t know how to study and I get confused with how to be very neat. Should I use binders or notebooks or folders? Should I type my notes or write them? Or should I just read the text? Do I memorize word for word or just note the general ideas? Do I read the topic before or after the class?
Overall, I am proud of myself and no matter how much time it takes me to learn these skills or how many hours I spend reading instead of making a myspace or facebook, at least ill have something that all those slackers don’t-self pride.
Reality Check

Sometimes paying attention in class is the best way to pass. I'm not saying don't Study, but I've personally found that when I pay attention and don't study i do much better on tests than when I study but didn't pay attention in class. I always write my notes down. It's partly because I don't have a laptop, but also I can organize my notes any way I want when I write. Can't really do that if you type. Whether to use binder or folders kind of depends what kind of classes you have. I use folders because my teachers give a lot of handout but not many assignments to turn in. Don't ever try to memorize word for word, you won't retain anything. General ideas and key words is the way to go.
You'll be fine. I think college is way easier than high school because I have the freedom to work how I want.
I think slackers have self pride, just not the same way you have it.
