I can't believe how people abuse animals these days. I don't understand what they are thinking, how on earth can someone do something so cruel? I've done alot of research papers on this issue and most cases of abuse are because the owner is ignorant, they don't know how to take care of a pet. I love animals and i can't stand people who abuse animals.
I think the most common case of abuse is neglect. People just don't pay attention to their pets, sometimes they don't feed them. I am so glad that there are groups like the aspca to help abused animals.

I think that animal abuse is so deeply ingrained in this culture that we just accept it in our day to day lives. Most people eat meat, and the meat that ends up on your plate is coming from animals that are routinely castrated, debeaked, de-horned, shocked, prodded, crammed into tiny cages where they lose their minds, skinned alive for their fur, artificially inseminated and slaughtered in any number of horrific ways. What's the fundamental difference between someone killing a dog or cat and the way these animals are routinely and cruelly treated. Some people are disgusted at the way people eat dogs and cats in Asian countries, but really, at least they aren't hypocrites.
I am against animal cruelty. Well I am sort of a hypocrite (I do eat some meat) But I think s/he refers to people and their pets. One thing is to eat meat, the cow is killed and not tortured for years. Some people will just tear the head of a chicken, and watch is run around without's it's head. Some enjoy shooting animals. People are strange. If you are going to kill the animal, than do it quick, don't let them suffer.
animal cruelty is horrible. i hate all people that hurt animals. they are defenslise.
the one thing in life i will never understand or agree with, is the way people treat animals. It is absolutley disgusting!! Families who can barely afford to feed themselves have houses over-run with severly emaciated cats and dogs, with fleas and worms and god knows what else!! HELLO why is this allowed to happen?!! Because to me, that is not a home. Animals are our equals and should be treated so accordingly! So people, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!!!

No, they aren't. And the fact that you believe that sort of scares me. If a house was burning down and one had to choose between saving a person and saving a cat I certainly hope they would save the person. If people were starving and had no way of getting any other food I hope they would eat the dog before eating one of their children. Animals are not our equals.

I don't agree with animal cruelty, though. I don't eat meat, don't buy leather or other animal-killing products, but I don't think animals are our equals. I definitely shouldn't go to prison for killing a bee, nor should I be arrested for harassing a fly.

Two of my three dogs were abused. It is a horrible thing. One of my dogs has had a broken jaw that healed itself (she now has an underbite and can hardly eat hard dog food). She also has a tattoo on her belly. I don't understand why people abuse animals. If they don't want a dog they wouldn't get one. They must get animals to torture them. It's sick.
Alot of time it goes back to the way they were treated when growing up.
Well, believe it or not, some cultures do not appreciate pets as you Americans do. You know how you love it when your dog comes and licks you? Yeah, well. It's disgusting for some of us.
While animals are not our equalls, we have a responsibility as the dominant species on the planet to protect and respect those who are our companions. I dont think that anyone has the right to abuse, mistreat, or exploit animals for any reason. We should treat all animals with reverence, appreciation, and not neglect them simply because they are deemed "lower life forms". They are still living creatures, with nerves, and brains (regardless how small). I am a Vegitarian, abhor fur-wearers, and I fully support animal rights, because they need protection, too.
