Young adult magazines and internet websites greatly encourage the “Rock the Vote” Campaign, but do not give the readers, and potential voters, access to the running candidates’ policies and platforms. The magazines aim to get more teenagers and young adults to vote, but not voting for the right reasons. It is as if the corporations behind the magazines want young adults to simply cast their ballots blind folded. Ignorance is how an incompetent fool takes office in the first place.
How else are teens going to make an informed decision? God knows that when the presidential “State of the Union” address appears on television, all teenagers turn their TVs to one of the four thousand other channels available in today's society. The majority of young adults do not read the newspaper, watch the daily news, or even care enough to look up a candidate’s platform. Young people ages 18-25 have THE lowest political participation out of any age group.
I am starting to think that we should all just follow suit, ditch the politics and the government and just pick up the new juicy lip gloss and stalk the current celebrity of the week. I hear that Johnny Depp is filming a new movie nearby.
