I don't know what to think!!! about: Global Warming

I'm pretty sure this is a topic that everyone's already written about here. However, I'm new here, and I'd like to give my bit of input on Global Warming.

So many sources have different views on Global Warming. Some people say that it's a terrible reality while others say that it does not even exist.

I would like to know what’s really going on here.

I understand that many “weird” things have been going on lately. Many countries have experienced temperature extremes lately. This past summer, a neighbor of mine with family in England told me all about how it was the hottest it’s ever been in England. There are reports of the Antarctic losing more and more area.

When you get to the science behind what the receding polar ice caps means, it gets a bit scary. I mean, more water in the ocean means decreased ocean salinity. That leads to less dense water. THAT leads to the deep ocean currents (what acts as a major controller of our climate) not really reaching as “deep and not cycling around the ocean ” as they should.

It’s all really scary.

However, a physical science teacher of mine once said that if you look at geologic records and other information about the Earth’s history for billions of years (not just the couple tens of thousands of years we’ve been around), the temperatures fluctuate greatly. I mean, we’ve had ice ages and times of extreme heat. The extreme heat (for example, during the Cretaceous Period) was actually good for the living creatures. More heat and carbon dioxide meant more plants, which meant more food for the herbivores. On the other hand, I doubt that we’d really like more heat and carbon dioxide because it would drastically change our ways of life, businesses, etc.

As a bit of a tangent, this kind of connects with differing views of history/time and economics. If you look at things linearly, you can see the fluctuations, and they might seem really extreme. However, if you see things in a cyclical manner, it might just seem “normal.” For example, people see life/time/history as just events after events after events while others see it as cycles of events that are all similar but with slight nuances. In economics, we have our daily ups and downs, but in all goes back to the larger-scale ups and downs of the entire, multi-year business cycle.

Now, I’m just wondering, which perspective should I look through? Then, how should I act in response to what I see through the perspective I choose? Or… Is there a middle ground?
