Do religious fanatics discredit all religins but their own? Are Christians 'not supposed' to believe the gods of other religions, such as Allah, exist? I feel they are all one god, called by different names. They are essentially nicknames for the same god, in my opinion.
Each religion has a god, and they each share characteristics. Healing powers, knowledge, boundless compassion. Is it so hard to believe then that they are all the same being and entity, just adapted for each society? It is undeniable that this is a possibility. Society is a strong power that has affected many aspects of history.
The variations within each religion can be accounted for by accepting that time changes everything. Human nature has also had a hand in this, as seen in the creation of the Protestant faith. Some individuals feel one should be strict in their following of their religion, and others do not. Different aspects of the religion are emphasized and a new religion or denomination is born.
Considering that relgion has started more than a few wars in the past, I see religious tolerance as a big step toward world peace. However, refusal to acknowledge a god by any other name will put a halt to this.
I apologize if any of my facts are wrong, and please feel free to correct me. I am just very interested to know how others feel about this.
One God or many?

I've talked with many deists that share this belief. I think only the fanatics/nutjobs are the ones that completely refute all ideas about the nature of God, and if Allah and Godare the same . All of the sensible people that I have discussed religion with are open to this sort of idea. In the part of the country where I live, people are very anti-anything not traditional Christian, so many people refuse to consider any idea involving another religion. I've tried to discuss this with that type of person, but it's like arguing with a tree. Many say that this is considering other gods to be comparable to the Christian god, but moments later will argue that there is only one god, period.
I have a different view than most about religion- so different that many consider me to be an atheist because I don't think of God as a person-like thing. I do get into discussions about whether or not the entity that I consider to be God could be the same being as they consider to be God, but many people say no because our ideas about the nature of God are different (you can read about my views in my blog if you like).
F*** Religion. Read more here:

I like your description: 'it's like arguing with a tree'. Religion is such a confusing concept, it is difficult for others to grasp and sometimes accpet. It just strikes me as a ridiculous reason to argue and fight wars. Granted, others find religion more important than I do. I am not a fanatic and try to have an open mind.
