Starting on my dream.

When I was a junior in high school, I decided to take an accounting class. I feel in love with it. Everyday, I would look forward to that class so much so that I would do my accounting homework in all my other classes. In November 1989 I faced the hardest heart breaking thing in my life thus far. My sister was killed in a car wreck. My sister was the one who I always tried to do better in school against. She and I pushed each other to do our best without her around my grades and the rest of my life went down the tube. I didn’t care about anything, but accounting. Number never lied to me and they never let me down. I would dive into my accounting assignment and I would be someone else while I was doing it. That year, I got into drinking a lot and at the lowest part of my life I tried to end it but I hear my sister telling me to get up and live my life to the fullest. I brushed myself and decided to get on with life. My senior year, I took Accounting 2 in Mrs. Swanson class. She gave me the book and said work at your own pace. She did not realize I was going to hand her book back completed in a semester. She found me computer work to do that dealt with accounting. I ate it up. I had plans to try to find out how to go to college but life threw me a curve ball. I met the man who is now my husband in 1990. After graduating in 1991 we started our family with a little girl named after my sister and her two grandmas Rosalynn Alison. When Rosalynn started school I decided once again to start working on going back to college and in 1999 we were blessed with a son Cody Ray. So again I put my dreams on hold for my family. In 2006, I broke my foot in four places and I was told I would not walk for 6 months. Well in three weeks I was walking and made plans to get on a trip to England that has changed everything in my life. I spent 17 days over there and I went by myself without knowing anyone. I met the most wonderful people and did a lot of soul searching. I wrote up a list of 20 things I want to do before I am 40. I have completed all but 6. Guess what two of them are? If you guess go to college and be an accountant you are right. Life had one more test I had to go through before I could do this. I was in a car wreck in August 2007 and dislodged the ligament in the foot I broke in 2006. October 2007 I had number three surgery on my foot. I was told my days of working at jobs that I had to be on my feet all day were over. So that headed me down the path to college. The middle of February, I found DeVry University and filled out an application the next day I had my student adviser come visited me at my home in Paradise, Montana. We finished most the rest of the paperwork and I chose to do an online program, mostly because the nearest school is in Washington. March 3rd I started college. My first 2 classes I passed with a 99% and 98%. My reasons for going to college are I have always wanted to. I have want to be an accountant more then anything career wise in my life. I want to prove to myself after all I have been though that waiting until this year was for the best because I have more determination to complete college and be the best accountant I can be. I want to prove to not only myself but to my two kids that if you have a dream you might have to put it on hold but someday you will be able to follow it.

Good story. Yeah I am in the same boat as far as going back to college. I had graduated high school at 17 went to college , and dropped out by before I turned 19. Why? Because I was working a ful time job and as soon as I would get off of work, I had to head to school. I was a full time student. I got so burned out I said forget it. Then I had a baby 7 months ago. Now I will be going back to school in August . Congratulations on going back to school and sorry for your loss. Oh yeah and the injuries too hurt a lot I bet.
