Ughhh, Politics!!

ForTheFuture's picture

Citizens of the United States vote so that their opinions will matter politically. People vote for a President who shares the same values and beliefs as they do. However, most voters agree on some things and disagree on others. I don't see how anyone can vote straight Republican or Democrat, because no one agrees with EVERYTHING a presidential candidate hopes to accomplish. I believe that political parties should be done away with and all voters should be independent. This would make peoples' votes more effective and meaningful because people would ONLY vote for what they believe in, not what the party believes in, so the overall results of people getting what they want is mush greater.
I do not see why people think that if Barack Obama is elected Presdient, that he will be assasinated soon after. Why don't people see that the same could happen to Hillary Clinton? It doesn't matter who is elected President(as far as chances of being assassinated are). Seriously, there are just as many sexist people in the United States as there are racist people. People need to stop being so opinionated and look at both sides of an argument!

The problem with getting rid of the party system is that nothing would get done. Our government would look like the English Parliment where there are tons of different parties/ interest groups and no one has a majority so no one can get anything passed, and no one would want to budge. We think it is hard now for things to get passed and accomplished, nothing would get done then! The parties have a core basis or belief and some people vote straight ticket, others vote according to what a canidate stands for. There is never going to be someone up in office that everyone agrees completely with. Everyone would just have to be in office themselves.
