I'm sure that I am not the only student who is having certain difficulties adjusting to the working-student life. The need for income for a self-supporting student is often the major/deciding factor in the decision to work all summer long and the part time jobs during the fall and spring. Being expected to balance home, school, and work on one plate along with becoming experts in time management can understandingly be an increasingly stressful position.
I currently work at Britt Motorsports of Morehead City, NC from 9:00 AM until 5:15 PM Tuesday – Thursday, and Saturdays and 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM Fridays, after which I drive to school and start my summer classes from 5:30 PM - 8:20 PM Monday through Thursday. My family owns a commercial fishing business, Capt Stacy Fishing Center, and I often times help my grandmother out on Sundays from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM. I consider myself to be healthy so I also try my best to go to the gym five days a weak. Considering the fact I get home about 10:00 after everything is said and done, I then do my homework/reading for my classes. Barely being able to eat normally, let alone have time to think straight, “welcome to the real world” and “you’re an adult” are no longer relevant to the lifestyle that has been mandatory for me to succeed in school.
