It seems like everyday we hear of injustices around the globe. For years we have been hearing of Darfur, yet its been years. Why hasn't anything been done? Look at Rwanda, the sheer lack of interest in what was happening there allowed 1 million people to die, at the least. In Darfur, rebels are crossing the border into Chad and the Central African Republic. Does the conflict in Sudan need to spill over into every surrounding country before someone steps in. The U.N has a limited base there, since the government won't allow more peacekeepers in beside African Union troops/ and the limited UN force there already. Just the other day 5 Ugandan soldiers were killed protecting valuable resources for refugees: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/04/02/darfur.killing.reut/index.html
Something has to stop here before the peace keeping collaspes. We can't allow the international community to stand by and allow the Sudanese government to limit the ability of the world community from protecting the millions of displaced peoples.
Also in Africa is the problem with President Mugabe. Recently Mugabe has had strict restrictions in place for protests. When a group of individuals held a peaceful prayer vigil, many were attacked. The leaders, Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara , were along with others beaten and intimidated. However, African leaders voiced that they believed the West should stop condeming Mugabe. Have they misintrepted the facts? Mugabe is at the center of a government whose economy is going quickly down the tubs, to be colliqual. If the people can not voice their objections to the government, revolution seems imminent. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/03/29/zimbabwe.summit/index.html
Theres more I could talk about. Feel free to send me information related to the subject of human rights abuse. There is plenty out there unfortunately.

I've been campaigning for Darfur for over two years now, and I was involved with Rwandan campaigns as well. I am so outraged and so discouraged that no one seems to be doing anything. Every now and then President Bush or the Prime Minister will set peace talks in motion but Sudan shuts them down. It's a horrible genocide out of control, I wish someone would do something!
Keep spreading the word and raising awareness. Eventually someone will hear and help the Darfur refugess. [If you want check out my blog "Heard of Darfur? Ongoing Genocide"]

Here's a little more from when this issues in Zimbabwea was more recent. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/03/12/zimbabwe.unrest.ap/index.html
As well here's an article on Women's rights in Iran from Human Rights Watch. http://hrw.org/english/docs/2007/03/07/iran15452_txt.htm
If you go to their website they have a very interesting video on cluster bomb munitions. A cluster bomb for those not informed on them, is a large missle filled with smaller bombs in a cluster, that fall around a target area. Like landmines they can sit around and stay active for quite some time. Being on a small parachuete as well means then could be on a roof, or in a tree that someone would never expect. Little kids can easily be maimed for life. Here's a link to the video: http://hrw.org/video/2007/clusters0207/video.htm
Here's how the Sudanese government reacts to the UN presence:

Here's an interesting development in women's rights:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/04/05/eritrea.circumcision.reut/index.html
It must be incredible painful to be circumcised as a young woman, and I can definately see how their society uses it against them to keep them in line. Its much like how in Kashmir and some other Muslim areas have had instances of men throwing acid into uncovered women's faces. How can progress be gained for women when they have to worry about acid being thrown in their faces if they want to be "liberated". It'd be like if in the 60's they threw acid on women who burned their bras.
