DEATH PENALTY

For my government class i have to write a 5-page paper on a public policy problem. i chose capital punishment. i believe its a great topic that is poorly cared for. The death penalty is when someone has done the unthinkable crime or act. There is currently there are over 3400 people on death row as of January of 2005. This average is from the thirty-eight states that believe in the death penalty. People believed that this should result in the death of the person. There are people who are against and people who are with the terms of the use of the death penalty. This is a serious. Lives are being destroyed due to the self-less acts done by others. Though the crimes that lead to this penalty, the committers do not deserve to be executed for there actions. Killing the person will not change the fact they killed someone else. Over the years many people have been executed for the heinous crimes they acted on. In 1999, ninety-eight inmates were killed in the U.S. back then most of the inmates killed were given the lethal injection. The people who oppose this punishment have many reasons why they believe it should be used. Some believe if you kill someone then you shall be killed as well. In a quote by the supreme court of the United States they say "Indeed, the decision that capital punishment may be the appropriate sanction in extreme cases is an expression of the community's belief that certain crimes are themselves so grievous an affront to humanity that the only adequate response may be the penalty of death. i believe the DP is wrong. the fact killing someone b/c of what they have done is stupid. killing someone who murdered another does not balance power or make anyone feel better. say your sibling was killed. the person who did it is a sibling or parent to another. it doesn't matter b/c they weren't thinking. my mom disagrees with me b/c it isn't fair. taking a life is unforgivable and horrible. but returning the favor is worse. everyone dies for a reason and in the end we die anyway. so i wonder if anyone thinks my opinion is stupid or might not make sense or basically isn't clear. should people voice there opinions about this or just be quiet?

-The death penalty is the punishment given to the person who has done the crime or act.

"so i wonder if anyone thinks my opinion is stupid or might not make sense or basically isn't clear. should people voice there opinions about this or just be quiet?"

You're opion isn't stupid but it is very unclear. I agree with you that killing should not be solved with killing; it's a never ending cycle.

You make several very good points, but i have to disagree with you. I'm believe more in "an eye for an eye" type of system. I mean, say that there is someone who losses everything that matters to them, or never even had that, like a bum. Then he goes out and kills someone, gets sent to death row. He all of a sudden gets an upgrade in life for the next 40 years. Free cable, food, warm bed. Probably better then his cardboard box in some cold ally way or under some bridge. And all because he killed someone. Now, if we went on to killing more murderers by way of the DP, it might show poeple that the punishment is a lot more then they'd be willing to want to deal with. homiside rate drops, even if its only slightly. That means that more people are able to live on with out their loved ones being violently taken from them.
