Prom

So over the past few weeks my friend and I have been dealing with the issue of Prom! I mean who wouldn't be excited about prom!?!? It's our senior year, we want to look beatufiul and have a great time! RIGHT!!! Only it's never that easy.  And so I was just realizing over the course of the past two weeks what you can learn about people, simply by mentioning the word prom.  I have learned who I can and cannot trust.  For example, I mentioned to several good guy friends that we should go together and many of them said " Oh yea sure, I'll get back to you as soon as I know".  Only they didn't so I made a mental note of this.  Secondly I believe I saw my best friend at her worst.  She seemed to get upset, or angry at just about anything and we have actually grown stronger through this.  Those people that choose to go to prom have to make many sacrifices, of time and money.  The time it takes to find the right tux or dress, the time it takes to make hair, nail, make-up, and dinner reservations/appointments.  The money that you have to pay for the dress, tux, limo, and dinner.  It is all in all a very expensive evening.  And so you begin to see that those people that decide to go, expect to have a great time, and they obviously care a great deal about whoever they are going with, whether that be a boyfriend, girlfriend or friend.  So in conclusion, I realized that I learned a great deal about prom, simply through all the tears, drama, and gossip.  I learned about my friends, and about myself.  I learned about high school, and what it takes to make it, I learned about chracter, and being a person of your word.  All this from an event that everyone makes such a fuss about.  Maybe we shell out the big bucks for some valuable lessons, not an evening of fun! Just something to think about.
