Are We Ready?

I read something today that was talking about our presidents and it got me thinking about the up coming election.  Everyone today knows that Hillary Clinton is running for president.  The only thing is (and I'm not saying I'm feminist or anything, because I'm not) do you think America is ready to have a woman president?  There are still so many people out there that think white males have the rule over everything.

I think that this is a new age and we should be doing things that go with that new age.  It's about time we had a change.  We shouldn't be doing things that have been done for centuries, not saying that they haven't worked in the past, but I think America is ready for a change.

I don't understand why we're even questioning if we're ready or not. Women have ruled in one form or another throughout history and they have done just as well in some instances and just as poorly in others, as males. If places such as Mongolia, Malta, Haiti, E. Germany, Israel, India, etc have been able to accept a female head of state at some point since 1900... what makes us any less ready?

I think a similar question has been posed about Barrack on the basis that there are still large pockets in the US that still haven't come to terms with people of all colours being equal, capable, etc. I am not sure if the same perception exists about women. if it does it must be much more subversive.

I guess if Rice or someone like Oprah had stepped up to the plate or does in 2012 it will be the ultimate question in a black, woman as potential president. :-)

But that aside, I think it will be a mute point. Unfortunately only a small percentage actually care about the issues or even think their vote makes a difference. The last two elections have been fought and decided on 30 second sound bites and media spin.

Based on this and our obsession in the US with TV, I think Fred Thompson will get the nod for both republican nominee and then president because half the voters will have a hard time distinguishing Fred Thompsons positions from the character he played on Law and Order. Plus people will compare him illogically to Regan and the effect that he had in office, etc.

I am sure if the terminator could run he would get voted in to office in a landslide. For all the worng reasons.

It is just the sad state of politics in this country. Australia is heading the same way. I don't know if Britian and other western countries are though.

I think we are ready for a woman president, but I do not believe Hillary is that woman. I do not agree with her views, she is wishy-washy and a typical politician. Our country needs to get away from that. We shouldn't want to vote for Hillary just because she is a women, even though we are ready for a woman president. She really isn't the best for the job, in my opinion.
