I have a hypothetical situation for you:
You don't know me, and you don't care about me. I need a kidney to live. My kidneys cannot function on their own.
You have a kidney. I decide to sneak into your house, tranquilize you, and against your will connect one of your kidneys to my body and exploit it.
Sorry, you can't disconnect me. You've got to walk around with me attached to you for as long as it takes for me to recover. You cannot start a new job, participate in many physical activities, ride roller coasters, or drink alcohol. Your personal appearance will suffer, and you may suffer adverse health because of me. You also must pick up all of the medical bills, as I am unable to work because of my lack of any kidneys at all. After some period of time, my kidneys will start to work on their own, but since you gave rise to their proper operation you are now legally obligated to ensure my proper care and upbringing for 18 years. You are also legally obligated to sacrifice your most basic needs and wants to ensure that I have food, medical care, school uniforms, and other related expenses. You could seek government assistance to help pay for my needs, but you must quit your middle income job and make less than 18,000 per year between the two of us in order to do so. You will most likely be unable to purchase a house, car, or new clothes with this new job. You will have to sell your house, empty your savings account, and downgrade your car in order to get this type of assistance. You can put me up for adoption, but due to my other health issues I will most likely remain under state care for the rest of my life and will be at a much higher risk for sexual abuse, mental abuse, and depression.
Do you cut me off, or do you walk around with me, sacrificing your entire livelihood to meet my needs even though you don't want me?
The choice is yours.
Please rate my post if you found it interesting.
Cheers!

My favorite aunt died of kidney failure. I know how bad it hurt her. No, I would not walk around attached to you but, if you were going to die, and you needed a kidney, and I was the only onle that could and/or would give it to you, I would. My aunt was on a waiting list for like ten or fifteen years and no one ever gave her one. Not even her sisters. I offered but at the time I was too young at the time. My grandmother could not do it because of diabeties and my mom offered, but i'm not sure why she never did. At least i'm telling the truth!
I think I would make this sacrifice as well, however, I don't think that anyone should have a moral obligation to do so if they choose not to. This part of my view is kinda explained in my blog about my moral philosophy. I honestly couldn't put myself first for someone who is aware of what's going on, feels pain, and has made accomplishments in life just out of personal comfort. I would expect some loyalty from that person, but I'd help foot the bill if it meant saving another life. In the case of a fetus, I don't think anyone has a moral obligation to continue an undesired pregnancy and to support the life of a being without feeling or self awareness. From this idea stems my view that if one chooses abortion, it should be early in the pregnancy before the embryo is developed enough to have awareness.

How does this deal with abortion?
Not really the same though, since you're a sentient and intelligent human being who might actually be a really nice person, aside from desperately stealing my kidney to keep yourself alive.
I completely agree. The usual reaction I get from pro-lifers is something along the lines of "I'd cut you off, you stole my kidney, so you deserve to die!" That's when I point out the fact that I'm actually aware of what's going on, and the fetus isn't (not that that makes abortion an easy alternative to birth control in my opinion, but that's another blog). This analogy at least makes people think about all the ways to look at the argument, instead of just one.

How does it not deal with abortion? It shows that yes woman carry a huge burden if they choose to create life! Is it not worth it? Is a night of pleasure and carelessness appropriately amended with murder? Is your life so hard that you are incapable of unconditional love and sacrifice. Make the choice? That is what the message is!

Yes, i can feel your breathing, I can hear you speak. Your decision I can feel it..
but yes it is your decision i am incapable of that!
Yes, you can feel my breathing and hear me speak......after you've developed a central nervous system capable of processing these sensations.
