It's Art, Not Religion

Alright. I changed this blog up entirely. I had a blog written, but everyone viewed it poorly since i wrote it rather sloppily and didn't convey my message properly.

But new plan. Somewhat similar topic.

Why must people insult other people's taste in music?
As I mentioned in my first draft of this blog, the only friends i had at school during my first semester at college constantly insulted and berated my music.
Why?
A person doesn't like the same songs you like so you think differently of them?
That is perhaps one of the most ignorant things I can imagine.

Music is very personal, whether you agree or not. That's why there are an infinite number of genres and styles and sounds. Music inspires feeling and emotion inside of people.

Think of the first time you heard your favorite song. Something about it inspired something inside you.
If there are 2 billion people on this planet and none of them are the same, how can you judge someone for not liking your favorite bands?

Furthermore, if you hear a song that's of a different style from what usually listen to, why turn it off without a moment's hesitation? What if it's the next song to change your life?

All this being said, I love seeing how prejudiced and opinionated and rude people can be when it comes to what music they like and what music they think the rest of the world should listen to as well.

You should be proud of the way you portray yourself regardless of what it is. Complaining about other people's remarks simply shows your insecurities. If you really believe in your choice of clothing and music what others care about it shouldn't matter to you

well i can assure you i am anything but ashamed of the person i am and what i try to represent.
the point of this blog was to signify how people in our nation are still so juvenile as to avoid judging a person based on character.

You judge and stereotype yourself, so why do you expect others not to?

Emo kid.

far from judging and stereotyping myself.
the stereotypes of the typical emo kid is that they are annoying and homosexual and stress anti-conformism too much.

did i make any mention to any of those claims being true? no. i even countered them by stating clearly that despite being of an average personality, that changed nothing.

think about things before you try to debate

No need to get so defensive.

I just think it's stupid that anyone label themselves at all: preps, jocks, punks, emos, whatever. You can associate yourselves with the emo "style" (because that's all it really is) and use that to assist you in identifying yourself, but I think it's dumb to identify yourself as one thing (in this case emo) and complain about how everyone has a negative stereotype of it.

Type "Prep" into google and you'll get just as many negative sites. Same with any other stupid stereotype that people use to talk about how they're individuals (even though they're just like everyone else).

hate to sound defensive. just my aggressive debate upbringing. :)

well i was hoping to express that i don't really lend myself to labels either. essentially why i kept stating because of the way i look. people are people and no one character is the same as another. but this entire argument was on people's negative perceptions of looks.

No prob.

Just from the outside looking in, it sounded like... well, what I talked about. Lol.

i concede to your claims.
i did a bad job of framing all of it.
for some reason i had to pick the weakest of all my blog ideas to write about. lol

It wasn't by choice, but most people have and still see me as a punk rock girl. I lost my rings- my nosering flew out when I sneezed and I nearly choked on my bent labret that pulled through my skin. My hair's a normal color now, although that's just because my hair friend couldn't get the purple to process. My tattoos and scars usually end up partially covered. Maybe it's the tall boots, fishnets, band t-shirts, and short skirts that are a consistent part of my wardrobe...

I was never a punk rock girl though. I love the music, love the shows, and have bruises all over from moshing at a Dropkick Murphys show last week. I've always hated that people were so ready to claim a title, especially when it ended up being, "I'm so much more punk rock (or whatever the title may be) than you!" I was never comfortable in any title. I'm just Sonja.

I'm still one of the people parents drag their kids away from, hold their purses tighter near, all that good stuff. So what though? Their loss. I think you might be overdoing it a little. Racism is far from gone. Someone will always stay ignorant. If you were so comfortable in who you are, you wouldn't really care so much about what others think. Or maybe that just comes with age.

ya'll are quite right.
i did a poor job of constructing this blog. sorry.
i didn't mean to make it sound like i'm whining or lamenting, but that's how it turned out.
although i still stand by my opinions, i just need to do a better job of expressing them via blog.

i'll write a better blog for everyone next time, instead of this crap.
and when i have more time i'll edit this one to be more fitting.
