Principal gone bad

My daughter's principal at her grade school was recently found smoking pot, drinking and doing other things with underage girls out of state that he met on a phone chat line. As the story begins to unravel, it turns out that 1) they didn't do a very thorough background check on him. They did find that he had no criminal background, but did not contact previous employers and 2) teachers and principals are not required to take a drug test. I was floored to find out that drug tests are not taken. These are people that spend a vast majority of time with our kids. Preparing them for the future. Why is it that people in the education field are not required of this. It makes you kind of wonder what kind of people are teaching our children. I know that there are really great teachers out there. I am not by all means pinpointing all teachers are doing drugs or other things. Don't get me wrong, this whole situtation is extremely upsetting to me. We live in a quiet little town where things like this just don't seem possible. If a drug test was required, would they have found something in his system? If something was detected, we wouldn't be dealing with what is going on now. It is awful to think of the kind of people that are near our kids. So my first question is if drug tests should be required for all people in the education field? My second question is what should happen to our board and administration for our district. This particular principal left a previous postion without any notice, never had contact with the school. Began teaching at a grade school and left there. Eventually he made his way to our quiet little down. The board of education never contacted previous employers and brushed off his abrupt absence as "personal, emotional distress." This entire situation is so upsetting becuase these are the children of our future. They are to young to have to face something like this.

That is rediculous that the Principal would even think that it is okay to do that. Especially thinking he would not get caught. Hopefully, this is will make the school system start to do drug tests and look into their employees better.

We had an instance like that in my high school. There was a male teacher who was caught having sex with astudent in the grocery store parking lot that was near the school. At the time he was the Dean of Students and instead of firing him, they demoted him to gym teacher. I did no understand why, I think public schools need to be more cautious then ever.
