At first glance, this probably seems like the lamest blog ever, but help me out here.
On Monday night, I went to a show at the School of Rock East where Just Surrender was opening for another band called Set Your Goals.
I went with my best guy friend in an attempt to sway him over to the lighter side of music, and was ecstatic to be able to see one of my favorite bands live (Just Surrender). Initially running late, we literally walked into the main stage room the second their set started. It was magic. It was music.
What truly impacted me, though, was not melodical at all, but, rather, an assault to my senses. The headlining act, Set Your Goals, turned out to be a hardcore punk band, and, to my dismay, my best friend absolutely loved it, & I was stuck there.
The crowd's reaction was what caught be completely off guard. Sure, I've seen moshing and crowd surfing before, and just about everyone has been a witness to hardcore dancing through AFI's video for The Leaving Song Pt. 2. Witnessing it firsthand was the real experience. Before that day, I had looked at the style of dancing as an excuse for ignorant guys to say that they knew something about the finer points of culture and dance- lol- but, as it turns out, the real thing resembles more of a ballet/ tribal dance.
And, oh, the screaming. For the first time in my life, I actually enjoyed this kind of music. It felt as if something just clicked deep within me, and as I started dancing playfully with my best friend (much to the laughter of the hardcore fans nearby), I felt free.
Maybe, just maybe, these guys (and, often, girls) have found their true voices through their feet. And maybe, just maybe, the screamers from these bands had the right idea all along.
Life may not always be a symphony, but the beauty of the noise is sometimes enough to bring one to tears.

LOL...kids. Here, try my favorite band on for size...

haha, AFI is hardcore in the sense they can sing and dance with their sisters pants on.
GWAR is ok.
Sarcastic indie rock that makes you think, kicks ass.
... it's just that the only well-known exmaple of hardcore dancing in the mainstream for people who aren't into hardcore was that video. lol. They are the furthest thing from it xD

The music gives me serious headaches. I opt for the fluffier variety of music because I've seen it and still just don't get it. And my head just can't take it.

You know what'll really give you goosebumps? Seek out some local female punk band...it'll be a holy moment, I promise....
Oh and if you can see them in someone's basement, all the better...
Love ya,
