I have a question. In class today, a group presented on the differences between feminism and womanism. What is the difference between the two? I haven't even heard the term "womanist" until I came to Spelman, so it's kind of strange. The only definition I got was from a reading, and I still don't know if I agree. Am I a womanist? I'm pretty focused and assertive, but I don't think a lot about women's rights and stuff. We have all kinds of discussions on how men make more than woman, etc. But I'm not sure if I'll ever really think about it when I graduate or outside of the classroom for that matter. I only think about it in relation to class. I don't think feminists are weird, but I do feel kind of bad because I could care less about these issues, and they actually effect me. So...I obviously don't have a clue, and it bothers me a little.

Wow- I've never heard of the term "womanist" either? If someone can explain it, I'd love to hear more about it!

Someone actually posted a blog recently stating the difference between womanism and feminism. From what I've read, you're probably a womanist if you're not ridiculously obnoxious about women's rights.
Thanks for the information!! Now I need to try and make the distinction on what I really am. Gosh all these "titles"....what to do, what to do?
