"Who Are You"

Within this day and age we[youth] are surrounded by class rankings, brand names, high end fashions, and tailor-made images of perfection seen through television and being publicized by the media. Yet we as people have began to lose touch with reality and have endulged ourselves in the same persona of our favorite country singer, actor or sports figure. We have lost the entire concept of "INDIVIDUALITY" and have allowed portraits and lifestyles of others to consume us whole. Where has all of the "INDIVIDUALITY" disappeared? I mean can you honestly say who you are anymore? Can you say that the trend you so love to dress in hasn't been seen on the red carpet or in your own community? I think NOT! Whatever happened to styling your hair the way you like it-not attempting to set a new trend, but just to be you? Although no one can truly see it we are becoming just alike. Regardless of race, creed, color or religion we all dwell on the dream of driving fancy cars, living in lavish homes, and setting trend after trend. Can anyone honestly tell me "Who Are You?"

Another example of how individuality can't ever be expressed externally, though teenagers/young people are constantly trying. I look around campus, and I can't tell you how many tea-chugging hipsters in cute little flats, mid-calf leggings and mini-skirts I've seen, though I'm sure they're all adopting the trend as "their own". I myself am guilty of it--I think fashions I see on my friends are cute but when I when I went to Express the other day, I couldn't buy anything because I didn't want to feel like a mass-produced mannequin! We have to get over it, wear what we're comfortable in/think is presentable, and let our actions speak for our personalities/individuality.
