Tina is 15yrs old, but she does not know that her mother gave her HIV through birth. Tina meets Frank and she loves him so much she has sex with him with out protection. A week later Frank dumps Tina and moves on to Kim. Kim then dumps Frank after unprotected sex because the guy Mark, she has wanted all along is now available. Mark has Chlamydia from a previous relationship but he does not know it. So Mark and Kim hook up and stay together for the rest of High School. During college Kim needs to get a physical to play sports they do a HIV and STD test on her. Two weeks later she comes back positive for HIV and Chlamydia. Chlamydia is a bacteria and is treatable, but HIV is a Virus and cannot be treated. So now Mark, Kim, Frank, and Tina are HIV positive. But what about the other people Frank and Tina have been having sex with since their previous relationships?

Who ever thought loving your boyfriend or girlfriend could kill you? Well it can! Our youth/peers are having sex younger and younger and condoms have really become a thing of the past, since birth control is so common. We were so focused on teen pregnancy that we overlooked the big picture. A baby can only bring struggle but HIV can bring death!

I started having sex at 14 now I am 24 and, I think man that was wrong. But at the time did not care. I wanted to be cool and to do what everyone else was doing. Our youth think that Jr.High and High school love is so real and important that they will do anything to prove their love. If only they new that this is just a fraction of what they will experience in life. Some parents may read this and think " not my child", well my parents never knew I was having sex until I was 18yrs old. Now, that was ten years ago so what is the common age for our youth to start having sex now?

A brief description of Chlamydia and HIV are listed below:

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection of your genital tract that spreads easily through sexual contact. You may not know you have chlamydia because the signs and symptoms of pain and fluid discharge don't show up right away, if they show up at all. Many people experience no signs and symptoms.

What is HIV?
HIV is the abbreviation for human immunodeficiency virus, the virus that causes AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome). The virus weakens a person's ability to fight infections and cancers. A person can get HIV by coming into contact with an infected person's body fluids (blood, semen, vaginal fluids, breast milk). HIV can be spread through:
Vaginal, oral or anal sex
Sharing unclean needles to take drugs
Pregnancy (from mother to baby)
Blood transfusions (Since 1985, blood donations have been routinely tested for HIV, so infection from blood transfusions is rare.)

You are so right! And it gets spread just like that too. From one person to another. Keep up the good writing!

This is why everyone should use a condom every time. Birth control is very effective, but it doesn't protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Birth control paired with condoms are even more effective against pregnancy, and condoms protect against HIV and other STDs.

Its a scary statistic, but 1 in 4 Teen Girls Has an STD.
