I LOVED the movie Hairspray!
That movie reflects many of my views! Except in today's society, colors have expanded further than black and white depicted in Hairspray. Now we not only classify people by color and body type, we look at ethnicity, religion, gender, and also sexual orientation and all of these influence people's prejudice.
For as far back as I can remember, I have alway had a friend that was not of my culture or race and I never thought much about it. My 'group' at school is like... a salad. My best friends are white and Indian. I am hispanic. Our group also consists of a black girl (who is also like one of my closest friends) and koreans. As far as religions go, I am a catholic but my friends are Hindu, non-practicing catholic, christian, jewish, and so much more. As far back as I have remembered, race and gender has never been an issue to me. I LOVE learning about all different kinds of cultures, races and religions. I am catholic but I am proud to say that i enjoy raking zen gardens and doing some budhist meditation... i also love the hinduist idea of reincarnation and karma.
My sister is actaully engaged to a german guy and I am so happy because for me... this means i not only get to eat german food (which is soo good by the way) and drink german beer (which i love!) but I also get to learn about the culture and travel to germany for holidays, (I guess i should also mention that seeing my sister happy makes me happy). My family has actually made it a goal to go to Oktoberfest one year and maybe another time stay for the celebration of Sylvester (NEW YEARS).
I am all for integrated marriages and mixing colors... and i will say this much... a painter can only do so much with one coat of paint before he grows tired and reaches for some thinner or another color to add to his piece.
that and... Salad tastes great and is healthy for us... so we should eat from the big dish of salad the world has to offer.
