John McCain, the presidential candidate and senator, responded to a student asking if he was too old to run for president by saying “Thanks for the question you little jerk…you’re drafted!” (watch the video here.) Although the media hasn’t begun running this story heavily yet, a couple of blogs out there are really pounding him for it. Not that long McCain received criticism for another statement in which he sang “Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran…” Clearly, as many others have insinuated, McCain is clearly a deranged lunatic who has no business running for president.
Or he was joking.
So, what do you guys think, is a distinguished Senator who’s respected on both sides of the political aisle a disturbed and crazy man who spends his time making up ditties about declaring war on sovereign states and enjoys threatening teenagers with the draft?
Or was he just joking?
You know, there’s a reason why most of the candidates for president seem so stiff – possibly because there are hundreds out there ready to take offense. I think John McCain’s (sort of unfunny and slightly weird) sense of humor just gained him a little more respect in my eyes.

I cannot beleive a vetran politician can such a big moron and say something as horrible as you mention. I do not think I was planning to vote for the guy anyway.

Because he sang a jingle about bombing Iran, he gained more respect in your eyes? How so?
from what i read in the paper, mccain was definitely trying to play off the student's statement in a joking manner (especially considering the somewhat brusque manner in which the student's question was worded...who asks someone if they're going to get alzheimer's?)...regardless, i wasn't planning on voting for him, but yea
I think he's a fucking idiot.
In response to what I thought about the jingle about bombing Iran - he was making fun of people who are dead set on nuking the crap out of Iran. At least, that's how I took it...
As for what he said to the kid, if you watch the video he's very obviouslly joking as well - not being a jerk.
I admire him for the fact that he doesn't seem to care much about how what he says might be spun by the media. Of course, that's probably why he won't even get a Presidential nomination...
i don't think he'll get a nomination either, but not necessarily because he doesn't care how the media spins things, but because he really is starting to be a little bit weird sometimes, and i don't think most voters are going to be able to handle that.
