So this is my first blog...ever...and I couldn't think what to write about. Then I went to ABC and looked up news articles...after all, this blog is supposed to be about current issues. And I came across one article that caught my eye; "Texting While Driving Could Spell Trouble." Congratulations Captain Obvious! Is it just me, or does texting while driving actually make for a dangerous driving experience? So far, only Washington State has actually banned texting while driving, but I read another article that said Maryland might pass a bill to ban texting while driving. GOOD! Maybe I'm just bitter because I'm not allowed to text, and I don't know the "happiness and joy that texting brings!" Or maybe I haven't been "blinded" by the hype and hysteria of texting. I mean, it's crazy how much people text! Some people get around 1000 text messages a day. And I don't know about you, but I would rather have people text on the side of the road where they won't be as dangerous to us other drivers then texting on the road where they are distracted and there would be more chance of an accident. According to AAA and Seventeen Magazine, a survey done in July of 2007 says that 61 percent of teens ages 16 to 17 admit to risky driving habits, and that 46 percent of that say that they text while driving. I am now officially scared. Teen drivers, including me, aren't the most experienced drivers, and so many accidents are caused because teens are distracted by friends, music, or now, texting. I'm not sure that I want my friends doing something that could lead to their death. Ok...maybe that's a little extreme...but you get the idea...right? I really think that texting while driving should be banned. It's only a safety precaution that could save hundreds, or even thousands, of lives. Like wearing safety glasses during a science experiment at school. Very rarely does something happen, but when it does, aren't you glad that you had the glasses on to protect yourself? And according to Gizmodo, 89 percent of adults want texting while driving to be banned...and 66 percent of them are guilty of the "crime." I don't think that texting is bad...in fact, sometimes it can be good. But not while you're driving a two-ton hunk of metal that could kill you or somebody else. So that’s my take on it. BAN TEXTING WHILE DRIVING!!!

I agree!! I admit, I've text while I was driving before but I don't anymore. It's super scary for the driver and everyone else on the road. I mean, what if everyone was texting at once? Who's gonna be paying attention to the road? I agree; I wish more states would pass laws making it illegal to text while driving. It'd make it so much more safe! I love your comparison of the experiments at school... I'm with you on this !
i though since cell phone use was banned while driving then that included texting...if not then it should be, it takes more of your attention to text then just talking on it
Why ban talking on your cell phone but not texting? I think any state that thinks texting and driving is a good idea should be booted out. Haha. I mean, it takes your eyes off the road and if you're using your hands for texting-what are you using on the wheel?
