I'm a Senior in a very small, rural, Kansas school. My class will be the last to graduate before a consolidation takes place; as Seniors most of us have grown up in this school district, and want to graduate with our alma mater being the Mustangs; ugh, but there are a few that are completely slacking off and are so close to flunking out its not even funny.
I don't know if it's just in this area or not, but there seems to be an epidemic of a complete lack of determination. There are so many kids at my school that could go so far, achieve so much, they have the world at their finger tips, yet they are throwing it all away for nothing.
The attitudes for a vast majority of the school is "I don't care". Nobody wants to step up and get involved. This not only goes for extracurriculars and clubs, but also in the actual acedemic arena of learning. There are two guys in my class that are boarderline failing their Senior years. We're almost done...why can't they just work a little and see it through?
I hate seeing wasted potiental. Unfortunately, around here anyway, it seems like people are looking for the easiest route, even when there are so many opportunities out there for them if they would just work a little.
Some young people just cannot see far enough into the future to care.
This is everywhere. In a crime-stricken but generally middle to upper class area in South Africa, to one of the worst 20 schools in England, to one of the top performing schools in England... everyone seems to have complete disregard for their futures, or for life in general. It's saddening, isn't it?
It is saddening...this one guy in my class is especially killing me...he's had a hard life but overcome so much already...he's so close to finishing, but he's starting to just throw it away...we're trying to help him out but he just won't listen or show up to school and he's 18 so there isn't much punishment for that, but there are a bunch of zeros for him...the whole thing is making me sick.
