Every year, high school seniors get ready to graduate. Their proud parents look on as their child walks across the stage to accept their diploma. They shed a few tears thinking about how fast their child grew up and they think about their future and what they will become. But what these parents may not know is that their child may not go to college at all and even though they might've got their acceptance letter, they might change their mind about going to college. Some people say that college isn't for everyone and others say that if you don't go to on to higher education, you'll be a nobody working as a janitor. In my opinion, I do believe that college isn't for everyone and some people might not be ready for college. These days, people don't like to study and without studying, you don't gain any knowledge. Of course if you don't go to college, you're not guaranteed a good salary and you may have to work two or three jobs to support yourself and your family but some people don't care. A lot of people want the easy way out and some of them had a very hard time getting through 4 years of high school. Most people would love to have an extraordinary career but because it takes about 4-7 years of schooling, they give up their dreams and also they may not be able to afford a college education and they may not want to take out a loan.Over the years, things have gotten better and more and more people are going to college realizing that without any kind of degree they'll never find a good job. So is college important? Yes it is especially if you want a rewarding career. No offense to the people who didn't go to college because like I've mentioned college isn't for everyone and I'm not saying that there are only jobs available to people who attended college. I am just saying that many jobs require a degree. Please comment I really wanna know what you think and P.S. I know there are many people on Progressive U who want to go to college because of the scholarship they are offering. Good luck to everyone in the future. I hope that you all have a rewarding career/ a good job like I hope to have.

Bill Gates and Steve Balmer dropped out. They ended up doing alright without a college degree...
Yes I understand that but everyone wil not be as lucky as they were.
Yeah i agree. But the point is that there are ways to succeed outside of the magical formula of college.
I don't know if you actually read my blog or just kind of skimmed through it but I did say that college isn't for everyone cuz I know a lot of people who drop out.
A lot of people when they think of college think of a four-year expensive program. But there are over 4276 degree-granting institutions in the U.S. (http://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d06/tables/dt06_248.asp). There are two year programs at community colleges. My sister has a learning disability. She was definitely the type of person who you could say just was not right for college. Although she had to transfer three times, she eventually found a technical institute that was right for her. I think that if people really search they can find a fit for them in terms of higher education. My dad does not have a college degree and is a great example of someone who works two jobs as a result. Right out of high school it was not for him. After he matured a bit and worked for years, he received the financial stability that allows him now to take night courses at local universities and he is working towards a degree in business. I agree that not everyone should go to a four-year college immediately after high school. Some people need time before receiving an education and others find that while college might not be right for them, a vocational or technical school or community college may be the best fit for them. I feel like if those who truly want an education enough look hard, they will find something that works for them.
I agree with the idea of finding your own and I disagre with the naieeve statement of "You pretty much need a degree to have a successful career" That is crap. Sometimes all you need is two years of training to pass a certification exam.
For example!
Nursing. Yes it is a degree, but what you really need is to become a Registered nurse, you can do this with two years of community college and passing a test.
Become certified is where some of the money is.
There's my two cents,

It's been pretty solidly proven through many, many studies that people who go to college generally succeed more in life. I don't think there is anyone in this world over the age of 16 who could not benefit from college. Not "ready"? Then don't go full-time. Take one or two courses, study online. There's SO many options out there, college isn't necessarily sitting in class.
There are always way to get by and succeed without a college degree, the whole point I think to having one is making the process of succeeding easier and most of the time a lot faster.
