This topic runs through my head everyday. The Rainforest ,as well as other forests, are being destroyed as we speak. Overpopulation in third world countries and logging certainly are not helping the situation. There have been some agreements made to slow it down or shut the construction down completely, however 40% of South America's rainforests have been destroyed or burned in the last 40 years!! That does not seem to me that the destruction has slowed down at all.
I believe if more of us bring this growing problem to be noticed more then we may save many ecosystems. The imbalance of one ecosystem can lead to the demise of others. The Food Chain even losing a single animal can off set the balance and destroy many species. There are many people that believe that there are animals and plants in the rainforest that can cure dieses. Just the idea intrugues me and also makes me worried. Do the people of the world care about destroying our forests? What fo you all think. I have also taken my favorite part of the article and pasted it here with a copy of the link I received my information from.
:O) Have a good day! Thanks for reading
"The Debt Burden
Nations of the Third World have a collective debt in excess of $US 1,300 billion. In 1987, repayments and interest charges reached $US 123.4 billion. In that year the Third World borrowed less than it repaid, resulting in a net flow to the First World of $US30 billion. The Third World is being impoverished to make the wealthy richer. In many countries a vicious circle has arisen: loans used to finance environmentally destructive projects can only be repaid through further destructive resource exploitation. Thus, the debt crisis has exacerbated environmental destruction in the Third World." (http://www.ru.org/32defore.html)

It's funny (in a ironic, sad way) that now, when it seems too late, folk suddenly realise that the industrial rape of the land creates perminent problems and consequences. Go Figure!
I feel strongly about the enivronment too and i think its absolutely horrible that people always think about right now and not the effects it will have in the future, if they did they wouldnt be tearing down the environment, killing plants that may possibly hold the key for curing diseases. The environment will be here long after we are gone, and how to we leave it for future generations? Who know if they'll have forests at the rate were going! And for the Third-world countries- I think its horrible how we push the weakest countries down even lower to boost us up a little.
