Recycling

So where I live our garbage gets picked up every Friday morning, every other Friday they also pick up the recyclable things. Since our newest neighbors moved in next door I’ve noticed they take all our cans, and plastic and glass bottles. I realized, these guys are getting easy money for our garbage. Not to mention, they’re helping the environment too. So now instead of putting all the cans and bottles outside for recycling day, we keep them in a bag and go recycle them ourselves. You get 5 cents for containers less than 24 ounces and 10 cents for those over 24 ounces. So after you have that party and have all those bottles of whatever you were drinking left over, go recycle them and get some money for it. Yea that’s a WHOLE trip to the recycling place, but think about the money you’re getting and if you just throw them away it’s a waste of money, natural resources, and energy. A website that tells about recycling says an aluminum can, can sit in a landfill for decades until it decomposes, but if it’s recycled it can be back on a shelf in about 90 days. That website has some helpful information and can probably answer questions you have, it’s www.bottlesandcans.com

I am so proud of my 6 year old nephew- he is addicted to recycling!! You know, if a 6 year old can do this- I'm sure we can too! Great post-

I used to be in the recycling club back when i was in high school. Yes, it was a pain in the butt to sort everything and recycle the right plastics. But in the end, I think it's worth the effort to save the environment. But when I'm at home, it's a totally different story, I get lazy and rarely recycles anything. I'm sure we all feel lazy sometimes by human nature, but if we take the time and effort to recycle whenever we can...It really does make a difference in our environment. Remember, every cent adds up.

I’m sure we can all agree, for the most part, that recycling is good for everyone. Yeah you could go and take your cans to the recycling center and make some money, but on the other hand when you think about how Allied Waste, a disposal company that services many parts of the United States, picks up our recycling for free. Now you may think, “Damn, they’re making money off our cans and bottles!”, but when you really think about it, they have to provide the transportation, the employees and the processing. That I would imagine would have something of a significant overhead. Also, keep in mind that when you go to the store and pick up a 6 pack of Coca-Cola you are paying a California redemption value tax. Also know as CRV. So in reality you really don’t make money, unless of course you take them from your neighbor. But then you must think about the time it takes you to collect the cans and then the resources to drive to drop them off. I suppose if your time is not worth very much and you can take the bus for free you have your self a profit!
