Growing up Poor vs. Middle Class vs. Filthy Rich!!!!!!!

Ever think about what life would have been like if you had grown up in a different financial bracket? Of course you have, everyone does right? Most think about being rich more than the alternative though. I was raised mostly middle class but started out on the very lower end. When I was little my dad was a Private in the U.S. Army making very little money. Sometimes we would get paid and have $40.00 to last two weeks. That amount included food and gas for two weeks. Of course that was almost 20 years ago and 40 bucks went allot further then. Nowadays that wouldn't fill the car up for one week, must less two!
My father was raised poor and has adapted to that pretty well. What I mean is that he can pretty much fix anything because that was what he had to do. Now he makes enough to buy new stuff but still will try to fix the old. I can just imagine if he became a millionaire he would still probably try to fix the lawn mower if it broke.
It has pretty much become a disposable world. That drives some people crazy mostly those that were raised poor or lower middle class. The rich have always been in a disposable world. Must be nice to just throw it away and get a new one.
Tell me how you were raised and what expectations you have/had of the future financial situation you're in. Think about your elders and how they were raised. Tell us some stories that they've shared with you.

It's become a disposable world because our stuff is crap. You know how many toasters our family has bought in the past ten years? Too many. But they would break beyond repair, all different brands, all different kinds. And in the end, it was cheaper to buy a new one than pay for the parts needed to fix them. C'est la vie.

My parents try to be economical, though. We don't really need cable, or magazine subscriptions, and we clip coupons. Little things like that help make the most of one's money. People need to realize that they need to be responsible for their money.

i would love to be richer because then i could buy more food, better clothes, a better car, a better house, and a laptop for personal use. The rich have it made because they can afford Prada while us middle class people are stuck with walmart.

All this talk of wealth is turning my stomach. You can't take it with you. It will weight you down. If you work your whole life to be rich, you will find how broke you are. Why does Exxon want more, because they can't have enough. This cycle is ridiculous. To consume ourselves to death. Really look at what you have and what makes it easier. Then and this is the hard part. Look into what it takes to build and maintain what it is that makes your ideal life easier. If the energy consumption is greater than in individuals expected average usage, then it's a waste. It is not simple mathematics but you can figure usage and waste of energy in your personal use. Apply it into the products you consume, and... well the earth doesn't have much energy for just me.

Whoa, what's so cool about Prada? I like Walmart. Wanting stuff because it's "better" is the wrong motivation.
