Shut up and put away your phone

Being a cell phone owner, I'm thoroughly addicted to it. I love my phone and text messaging is a daily thing for me. Even during class. But I understand that it is distracting not only for the teachers but its incredibly easy for students to pay more attention to their phones than to teachers. Kids argue that they need them to talk to their parents in times of an emergency...so why are you texting your best friend across the room when you get caught? Parents do call during the day (incuding mine) but the majority of the time, kids are using their cells to gossip, cheat, and send those stupid foward messages we all hate.

Now those of you that are whining about the ban on cell phones at your school. Going 6 hours without a phone isn't that hard! There are ways around it and you know it. So I'm not saying don't use your phone, just don't whine when you get caught.

Parents: stop calling us during class. You KNOW we can't answer so don't get mad when we don't.

Cheaters: its mainly your fault that there's a ban in the first place. 'wats the answer 2 #13?' '45' 'okay thx'. Sound familiar? Ok, now fast forward to the third time you ask and the teacher sees. Oops. Bye Bye phones.

In all honesty, cell phones AREN'T part of an edcuational process, so there's no reason for why they should be allowed in school. They're a toy. You weren't allowed to bring Barbie and the Power Rangers to school and you're not allowed to use cell phones. Get over it and find a way to communicate later, or just don't get caught.

it's nice to see that you're on both sides of the spectrum. i kinda agree with you. i know that i text alot about non-educational things. i don't really cheat through texting but i know plenty of people who do & i HATE those forwards myself. but i do agree that for whatever reason someone's phone is out, a teacher has the right to take it. it's even worse when students distract the whole class & argue about it as if it wasn't their own fault that it was taken in the first place.

"You weren't allowed to bring Barbie and the Power Rangers to school" LOL, I tried though. I had to have my GIJoes with me when I was little. Flint went everywhere I went.

Well freakin said.

I've already had to make it so that my little step sis, does not take her phone to school with her at all.

People didn't need them in school before they were made, and they still don't. Ahh it's embarrassing calling from the office or im too lazy to do so, blah. The only emergency cell phones that I could said would be reasonable, would be a pre-paid cell phone with like 5 minutes a week on it lol.

personally, I don't like being on the phone for over half an hour, hwever, I know people like you that are 'addicted' to usung the cells. emergency call in school I feel can be addressed by teachers or higher authority if it's that dire. I don't think that texting someone across the room is appropriate in any way when others are trying to learn.

If there is really an emergency, somebody will contact the school. Phones should be put up. They hinder the education process. They are not only distracting to the teacher but to me. When people are texting, they are not listening/learning, and that holds the entire class back.

Cell phones do not belong in school.

I can see how they would be bad, but some colleges have started using them to let students know if their is am emergency. by sending a text message to the phones instead pf announcing it on the intracom. i read about that somewhere i think it was cnn.com
or new4jax.com

My school uses text notifications for emergencies. I wouldn't get them anyways, because I only use my phone when I have to. I hate phones. It was so much nicer back when only businessmen carried cell phones.
