Recently a study/research was done on the age old question... what would happen if a dug a straight hole.. would I end up in China? If you tried to dig a hole to China from the fifty states you would actually not end up in China. You would end up in an ocean. The US is opposite to a cold empty sea near Anatartica. While there are a few places in the United States that are directly opposite small volcanic islands. Basically, there is no way any one in the US could dig a whole to China. As a kid you know you wondered about this question! haha Yet, if you do live in Argentine you would end up China. I found this really interesting just because it is one of those questions that children always ask and you really have no idea. Well not that any one could actually dig a whole through the earth, but I mean what if...

I'm glad that I always gave up after... a foot and a half or so. I wouldn't want to drown in an ocean. I wouldn't want to be burned to death by magma, for that matter.
I think that why children came up with this question is because they might of watched a "Looney Tunes" cartoon where Bugs Bunny (or some other character) dug a hole through the Earth and ended up facing upside down in China. So for that reason, I would tell my children that you can't dig a hole through the Earth and end up in China because just because it happened in a cartoon doesn't mean you can do that in real life.

Would a hole drain the water of the ocean into America and wipe it out?
