AMAZING METS

Finally, this is the year that the New York Mets will make it to the World Series. With arguably the best pitcher in baseball, Johan Santana, anchoring the rotation, alongside former CY winner, Pedro Martinez, the Mets have the best starting five in baseball. Besides the two more notable starting pitchers, the Mets also have a pair of 15-game winners, in John Maine and Oliver Perez. The competition for the 5th spot in the rotation is still a toss up between Mike Pelfrey, a bona fide young prospect, and Orlando Hernandez, a wily veteran. The Mets bullpen is very solid if not great. They have notables Aaron Heilman and all-star Billy Wagner solidifying the bullpen. The offensive is no slouch either. With speedster Jose Reyes (lead the majors in stolen bases for the past three years) leading of the potent offense and perennial all-stars David Wright and Carlos Beltran in the middle of the lineup, the Mets offense ranked top tier in almost every major offense category. This past off-season, after a forgettable September slide, the Mets made several additions to bolster the club, including the aforementioned Johan Santana addition. They also added Ryan Church, an offensive and defensive upgrade in right field. They also added Brian Scheinder, a defensive stalwart at catcher.
