Be aware of Identity thefts!

Tagged:

It is important to keep your personal information and credit/debit cards safe! I know all of you have heard of Identity thefts. The internet is the most dangerous place to share your information. Though most of you have parents dealing with the bills and payments, it is important to learn how to deal with your finances and learn about financial security.

NEVER share social security number, debit/credit card numbers, other personal information with a real person that you are unsure of (especiallly if they aren't some company's customer service representative that you call to to get help.) Most companies only ask for last 4 digits of your social security number for security purposes. Never write your debit card pin on the signagture part on the back, it would be really bad if you lose it. Report anything to the card company if you lost it or see a suspicious transactions on your bills. Keep your social security card in a safe place so you won't lose it. You hear how important that is, for retirement, etc. These are just some tips.

If you already do know all this, then you know it is important it is to keep your social security number safe... yet why do a lot of companies, like financial aid, use it as your identification number? We are just some number to them but the number is valuable to us.

I think having a debit card teaches pre-adults how to manage money. I would NOT recommend a credit card especially if you are a big spender and don't know how to save money. It coul dlead to debt and a lot of finance charges.

Another tip:
Be sure to shred your CC bills, etc. before throwing them away. Dumpster divers are out to get you!
