and apparently stamps are too! First class postage stamps hiked to $0.41 today. Check this out (and other price changes) at www.usps.com.
Anyway, one thing I thought was a great idea is the new Forever Stamps. (http://www.usps.com/prices/prices_forever.htm)
If you buy these stamps, you can use them until the end of time (or until USPS decides to change the policy)...even if the prices go up again. I think it's a great idea. Buying $0.02 is annoying, and since I don't mail as many letters now that I'm attempting to save some trees by paying most of my bills online, I like the idea that I can go buy 18 or 20 of these things and not have to worry about using them up before the prices go up again.
Way to go USPS!
The reason behind this hike is partly due to what I just stated above - more people are paying their bills online. Which is great b.c now at least a tiny amount of trees are being saved, but it's also a double edged sword. It means that the stuff you do have to mail is now more expensive. And it shows that USPS is in trouble financially.
Do you think that snail mail will cease to exist in the future? How far do think the prices will go before the USPS has to seriously cut mailing services?

41 cents is better than well over 3 bucks per gallon for gas. They wont cut mailing services because not everyone has or want to use online services, not to mention packages :)

If it does, it will take quite a while. There are still packages to mail, as well as those certified things, etc, etc, etc... not everything can be done online.
