One of my quirky items of interest is subliminal messages. Dictionary.com describes anything subliminal as "employing stimuli insufficiently intense to produce a discrete sensation but often being or designed to be intense enough to influence the mental processes or the behavior of the individual". A stimuli is anything that triggers a sort of response, however subliminal is below what you conciously recognize. There is a theory that hiding images(subliminal messages) in movies or advertisements can influence thinking.
Ads could supposedly excite customers with the picture of a naked lady or some vulgar act. Subliminal messages are intended to affect the mind. There is a very good YouTube video showing a great deal of ads and other media that may have subliminal messages. The video creator even added some dramatic music. It's worth a look, though you may have to pause some of the pictures to see what you're not supposed to see. Viewer discretion is advised.

You may have heard about how people would play a record backwards and supposedly hear Satanic messages, right? Well those messages are what we're talking about, whether or not they exist. Watch the video below please, and we will continue this lecture.

Did you hear how when the song was played backwards, the singer was talking about the power of "Sweet Satan"? Oh you poor thing. I just tricked you, didn't I?
My theory (which may not be inherently mine) is that you are hearing what you want to hear. Or rather, what YouTube user Angelati wants you to hear.The person who posted the vid says “You be the judge” and says to come up with your own ideas regarding the song when it is played backwards, however she doesn’t allow for that. Whether she meant to or not, she makes all the decisions for you, and you follow along like a sheep to the shepherd. When you see the new lyrics, you automatically assume those are the correct words! In all truth, this is probably just gibberish that our minds are trying to make sense of.
This video proves that. This is a real song played normally, but when the YouTube user puts new lyrics to it, you can actually trick yourself into believing the lyrics! Pretty amazing. (And it's quite a funny video too).

That first one almost reminded me of The Davinci Code... how they saw a message in every image... That second one was creepy, but you are probably right, they convinced you that that was what they were singing. Having the lyrics up was a trick.

The DaVinci Code....I didn't think to relate it to that video but I can see what you're talking about. Although, I hardly see Coca Cola being symbolic of the "Chalice" or...what was the other one? the "sword" or somethign? the "sceptor"?
I agree. Creepy. I got chills watching the first video. Then again, I watched a whole bunch of these types of videos one day, so I coulda just been freaked out in general.

I have my own theory about Stairway to Heaven. Perhaps it really was written to be played backwards, but not as a shout out to the devil. Led Zeppilin perhaps wanted to see how people would react or if they would notice it. Or maybe it was to reinforce the statement from the song, "Words have two different meanings." Then again, I find it hard to believe someone would take the effort to write the song so when played backwards would be a chant to the devil. So it very well might be coincidence.
There may be subliminal messages in music, however in this case I'm leaning more towards coincedence.

Yeah. "Lol". Very awkward for me to use, if at all. I used to never ever use the shortcut "lol" because I thought it was kinda stupid. I now find myself using it every now and then as a short cut. I'm lazy. :S
Oh, and as a side-note: If you read it and really like it, would you recommend it to someone? I worked real hard on this one for research purposes and it's already been kicked off the Recently Posted list. Darn you "Epic Kitty Catching Manuever" and "Teh Intarwebs are out to get me". Darn you.

This is SO creepy! I am a skeptical person by nature so I don't know about sweet satan... but the hidden messages in advertisement I don't doubt whatsoever. Disney is the worst though. The castle of the Little Mermaid is really a phallic symbol. Gross. And in the scene on the ship when the prince is about to marry Ursella if you look at the minister... he has a boner. No joke.

I believe mvenus is correct. It's just a cartoony knee, and since the priest is seen from the side (which I think he is) then technically it should be a knee, but then again the cartoonist could've still had a sick mind. My friend send me a scan of the cover of the movie and there was certainly some clear intentions with one of the towers.,,

Luckily kids' minds haven't had quit as much experience with sexual ambiguity. When people sit they have knees... not huge penises. It takes a little more maturity to see the demented things :-)
It's probably safe for the kids. They think nothing of it. It makes the movies more interesting when we have to go back and watch them with our nieces/nephews/children.
Is someone going to claim they were scarred as a child by this? :-)
edit: I just watched the video. Hahah! That's not a knee. They don't flop or bend like that. That's what you get for underpaying the interns who fill in the intermediary frames... oops :-)

And the brainwashing involved in telling kids they'll live happily ever after. Let's quit selling them lies and just show them cartoons of animals decaying. It's much more accurate.
Yeah, that's a bigger issue for kids. It's more obvious to see that princesses get their way, less obvious that the princess may be saying things that sound wrong to adults.

But to be fair, the priest's knee-penis was edited out in the collector's edition release. So I guess they agree with the ambiguity.
I don't know what's up with Disney, but it's in Aladdin too. Some friends and I watched the Little Mermaid and Aladdin back in high school to find the messages. In Aladdin, there's a part where Aladdin is looking for Jasmine and there's a bee buzzing. The bee might be the Genie, I can't remember, but you can hear, "Good teenagers, take off your clothes." It might be what someone wanted to hear though, so now we all just believe since we secretly want to believe it's there too.

I've heard of this one, and I believe this may be a case of misheard dialogue. I had to hear it in a YouTube clip, and it does almost sound like this. But the real line of dialogue is something around "Good kitty take off and go", so it could be just our sick minds switching things around on us!

One of the greatest ways to achieve 'mind control' is to let the 'listener' draw their own conclusions. It makes sense that, if they knew what you know, people would feel the same that you do about something. So, you say something without 'saying' anything. You present facts in a way that the conclusion is almost inevitable. Play to the emotions, show things which evoke a strong reaction. Arrange the 'stimuli' in the right manner... then you've managed to 'educate' someone... you've taken something from inside of them and made it seem to be knowledge.
Very true. In essence the "teacher" is leading the student directly in one direction for some hidden agenda for the "teachers" own benefit. Hmmm, was the teacher/student metaphor too confusing?

This is so right on. I can't describe it as eloquently, but this is how I feel when I watch TV in China. Just today there was a program on about the riots in Lhasa, Tibet in March and they only reported about innocent casualities and showed the most damning footage. Then they have one Tibetan woman say she wants the protests to stop and one official say that is obvious that the Dalai Lama's followers planned the whole thing. The end was just that the government controlled everything, the bad guys turned themselves in and the people are getting back to life as usual.
They don't really give you a chance to think, they present the selected information in such a way with the right interviews and push you to think what they think.

That is really scary, I looked at the mermaid link and ventured off to look at more videos; the one about Pokemon is really scary, BTW don't watch the one about toy story: at the end one of those scary faces pops up and makes you pee your pants. This is an amazing blog, you can tell that it is really thought out and planned.

Also, Ozone, "dragonstea din te" (numa numa)...has a simlar misheard lyric thing on YouTube- I love to listen to that because I know the real lyrics as well.
We studied this in Pyschology. There is also something called an absolute threshold (you may already know this) which allegedy determines when you can and cannot hear things, making the theory of mind control all the more believable (not that I do at all) because you can't hear it, no matter how hard you try. It's kind of like in Lion King when they supposedly say "good teenagers take off their clothes."
The fact is, though, if someone doesn't tell you what you are looking for (or at least that you're looking for something at all ) you will never know anything out of the ordinary is happening. Is that mind control? Or just marketers being weird? I, personally, don't think it has an impact until you know it's there.
