Is Midieval Really that Different?

Have you ever thought of what it would be like to travel back in time? To when castles were still active and royalty still ruled the country? I have. Medieval times have always fascinated me; the clothes they wore as a peasant and as a member of royalty, the work they did, family life, bartering, and how they treated women and men. I thought of how I would be treated as a female alone, and how I would handle it. I’ve wondered what they would say if I came in my everyday clothes, painted nails, make-up, soft skin from putting lotion on every day, and my un-ratted hair, silky and soft. Would they call me a witch for looking different and burn me alive? Would they just gossip behind my back and call me disgraceful for the jeans and shirt; not being a lady, for a lady is someone who is and looks helpless and wore dresses only, not ‘men’s’ clothing? I’ve always come up with scenarios about me going back during these times. I could be a hero, I could be a peasant girl who had a secret royal lover, maybe the prince, or I could be part of the royal family who has to be won as a prize to a noble prince. These are all daydreams and scenarios that I’ve thought about. Things are a lot different now than they were then, but some important things are the same. Both time periods were and are ignorant, and afraid of change. Both government and a king are corrupt; that’s what happens when one man or a small amount of men have the power to do what they want with the country. The land is everyone’s not just the government’s; that’s the way it should be. Yeah-we get to vote, but if the government decides against the majority, they can change it. Looking through my perspective this wrong. Do you agree, and if not why?
