I logged onto my favorite news source today, the WSJ.com, and the very first article warmed my heart. There truly is justice in this world. After his assault on New Yorkers with the very unpopular plan to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, and his continued attempts to push it through despite repeated protests by citizens of the state, Governor Elliot Spitzer has finally been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
I have always known this man was slimy - but I didn't know how far past the user-car-salesman persona he'd fallen until I read this article. Apparently, Spitzer admitted to one of his senior administration aids that he's been involved with a prostitution ring! Although details are not yet available, one can only assume he'd announce this because he was a client - not the prosecutor - of the case. Spitzer's platform about "ethics reform and end[ing] the often seamy ways of Albany" is clearly very close to his heart.
One thing is for sure - this New Yorker is looking forward to the impeachment of "Governor" Eliot Spitzer - who will go down in history as The Worst Governor New York Has Ever Had.

I mean, I think he's a creep, too, and I am NO fan of his policies, but so many people are like, "Don't judge. It's someone's life and you have no right to force your beliefs on someone else." And apparently the exception is in politics.
I'm fairly certain 99% of the voters in NY do not believe that soliciting prostitution is an appropriate activity for a married man in the public eye. Especially considering that he allegedly committed several felonies in the process and he will probably end up serving some time unless he gets himself a really sweet deal.
That's not really personal beliefs -it's common sense - "Hey, dude, start respecting your family and your position in government." He's a public figure, and therefore a role model. Spitzer knew that when he signed up for the job; that much is clear from all the bullshit rhetoric he spewed about "cleaning up New York." All this should come as no surprise.
I agree with you but wanted to take the opportunity to point out the inconsistency of the beliefs others on the website flout. Why do we find what this idiot does so wrong? Because of common decency. But this is misconstrued by many.
I think I see what you are getting at...
Common decency is not a belief, but a basic human trait that separates us from animals? And therefore you cannot impress it upon others in the way you previously described people claim happens?
Hopefully this means that some better candidates will surface and be able to lead New York State in a better direction.
I just hope that we don't end up with the same kind of three-ring circus that California had to deal with when Gray Davis was recalled.
Actually... Patterson is up to replace Spitzer.
He'd be New York's first black Governor; he's also blind, and was born in Harlem. Patterson also is uber-Liberal... more so than Spitzer.
Good blog and I share the sentiment about Spitzer. Spitzer has doubly fucked Hillary! Early in the primaries she seemed unassailable and headed for easy victory. Things fell apart for her in the second debate when she was unable to give a decent answer on Spitzer's plan to give driver's licenses to illegals. That damaged her badly and almost all of problems can be traced to that incident. And this latest incident has not done her any good either. Fortunately for her, Rev Wright knocked Spitzer off the front page.
But perhaps "honey pot" would be a more apt metaphor than "cookie jar"? And "head" rather than "hand"? The hapless Winnie the Pooh comes to mind.
